Mr. Ernest McLain “Ernie” Gotham of the Breeding community in Adair County departed this life on Sunday, December 9, 2018 at the Norton Hospital in Louisville after a brief illness. Born on April 4, 1939 in Norwood, Massachusetts, he was 79 years, 8 months, and 5 days of age. Mr. Gotham was a retired police detective and was of the Christian faith. He spent his later years enjoying crossword puzzles, eating too much candy, and watching his Boston Red Sox create a Major League dynasty. As a historical enthusiast, there wasn’t much he didn’t know about the Civil War, and his appreciation for all things athletic served him well as an umpire and referee.

He leaves to mourn his passing:

Five children, Lisa Gotham and fiancé Anthony Vickery of Columbia, Chris Gotham of Breeding, and Kristy Gotham-Flynn, Richard Gotham, and Susan Gotham-Hildreth, all of Massachusetts,

One local grandchild, Amelia Vickery, and several extended grandchildren,

A former spouse, Barbara Lionetti of Breeding,

One niece, Bridgette Flynn-Bennett and husband Christian, and their son, James,

And a host of other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Doris Wedge Gotham, a son and daughter, David Gotham and Ashley Gotham, and his sister, Beverly Flynn.

Cremation was chosen, and a memorial service will be announced and conducted at a later date in Massachusetts.
