Dr. Forest F. Shely, Age 86

Dr. Forest F. Shely of Campbellsville, son of the late Forest Wyatt Shely and Blanche Brown Shely, was born June 20, 1924 in Anderson County, Kentucky.  He died at 5:00 A.M., Monday, August 30, 2010 in Campbellsville.  Age: 86

He professed faith in Christ and was a member of the Campbellsville Baptist Church.  He was a Baptist deacon and Sunday School teacher for over fifty years and was a Gideon.

He was a veteran of World War II having served his country honorably in the United States Army.

He was a retired medical doctor having practiced medicine since 1950. He served as medical director of several area nursing homes, was the first administrator of Taylor County Hospital, a former chairman of the Taylor County and Lake Cumberland District Boards of Health, a former member of the Taylor County Mental Health Board, Taylor County Public Library Board, and Campbellsville-Taylor County Rescue Advisory Board.

He was Chairman of the Board of Directors of Citizens Bank and Trust Company.

He had been a member of the Board of Trustees at Campbellsville University since 1954. 

He was a member and past president of the Campbellsville Rotary Club.

He united in marriage to Roberta Hale April 6, 1947.  She preceded him in death February 23, 2006.

He is survived by one son and four daughters:  Jacque Blackwelder and husband, Denis of Old Hickory, Tennessee, Deborah Edwards of Lexington, Bill Shely and wife, Cathy of Morehead and Karen McMahan and Carla Corbin and husband, Dale of Campbellsville; seven grandchildren: Andy Griffin and wife, Terri of Furlong, Pennsylvania, Ryan Shely of Lexington, Dr. Ashley Kanzler and husband, Dr. Alex Kanzler of Bradenton, Florida, and Karis Chesser and husband, Richie, Lindsey McMahan, Josh Major, and Emily Major of Campbellsville; seven great-grandchildren: Baylor Griffin, Emory Griffin, McLean Griffin, Aidan McMahan, Dalton Reynolds, Jonathan Chesser and Ann Marie Chesser; nephew, Brent Owen and wife, Genevieve of Williamsburg, Virginia and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Todd Franklin Griffin May 23, 1992 and a brother, Robert Shely.
