Jeanette Conner

Jeanette Jones Conner, age 83 years, 7 months and 22 days of age, died on Saturday, July 21, 2018 in Louisville after an extended illness.

She was born in Lee County, Virginia the daughter of the late Luster and Georgia Jessee Jones.    Her beloved husband, Sam Conner, whom she married on August 3, 1966, preceded her in death on September 4, 2003.     Also preceding her in death were three sisters, Wanda Jones, Ethel Jean Story and Clarietta Davis, two brothers, Lester Jones Jr., and Kenneth Jones as well as a step-daughter, Wanda Rodgers.

Until her health began to fail, Jeanette was often found in her yard working on her flowers of many types, but her roses were her favorite.   Her gift of hospitality was enjoyed by many who were so often invited into her home for a lady’s brunch or an elegant dinner.    Jeanette had acquired her Master’s Degree in Education as well as an Education Specialist Degree from Western Kentucky University after having acquired her Bachelor’s Degree from Campbellsville University.   She was a member of the International Reading Association and served as a Board member for both the Kentucky IRA and Adanta.  She was very active in her community having been a member of Campbellsville Women’s Club, Campbellsville American Association of University Women, Business and Professional Women’s Club, Campbellsville Rotary Club, Taylor Regional Hospital Auxiliary, International Platform Association, Kentucky Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, National Alliance of Multiage Educators, Society for Developmental Education-Kentucky Education Association and Taylor County Education Association.     She was Who’s Who in the American Education, American Women, South and South West, Business and Professional Women and Who’s Who in America and World’s Who’s Who of Women and a member of Phi Delta Kappa.    Jeanette was a delegate for the 20th Biennial Early Childhood Conference in Perth, Australia in 1994 sponsored by the Citizens Ambassador Program of People to People International and International Educators Conference in China in 1999.   One of her greatest joys in life came in teaching children in the local school system prior to her retirement.

She had made a profession of faith and was a long-standing member of Campbellsville Baptist Church where she taught a ladies Sunday School Class for many years and greeted all those that arrived with a smile and a word of encouragement.

Surviving is a sister, Floretta Green and her husband Michael of Pennington Gap, Virginia as well as two brothers, David Lane Jones of Wise, Virginia and Nathan Jones and his wife Linda of Big Stone, Virginia. Also surviving is Jessica Jones, Timothy Jones and Thomasena Jones as well as special nieces Tamara and Jamie Davis, other nieces, nephews, cousins and family members as well as countless friends including special long-time friends, Wilma Gaddie, Pat Ewing and Daryl and Sharon Berry.

The funeral service for Jeanette Jones Conner will be held Thursday, July 26, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. at Campbellsville Baptist Church with Bro. Brad Lauer officiating.    Burial will follow at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, July 27, 2018 at Glenwood Cemetery in Powell, TN with pallbearers being Nathan Jones, Tim Jones, Jason Story, Shane Story and Brandon Story.  The family request visitation from 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. on Thursday prior to the service.

Expressions of sympathy are requested to be to the Harvest Free Will Baptist Child Care Ministries of Lee County, Virginia or Gideon Bibles and may be made during visitation hours at the church.

Hinton-Turner Funeral Home in Paris, Kentucky is in charge of arrangements.
