EUGENE LEON SMITH, SR., OBITUARY

Eugene Leon Smith Sr., 94, of Danville, formerly of Campbellsville, Kentucky, son of late William Everett Smith and Ethel Grigsby Smith, was born August 17th, 1927, in Washington County and departed this life on Friday, November 26th, 2021, at Landmark Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Danville.

He professed his faith in Christ and was a member of Lowell Avenue Baptist Church.

He united in marriage to Betty Lou Guenther on December 24th,1951, and she preceded him in death on September 22nd, 2017.

Eugene was a veteran of WWII having served his country in the United States Army. He obtained a Post Graduate degree and worked as a guidance counselor in the school system. He was also a Baptist minister pastoring at various churches.

He is survived by one son and one daughter: Leon Smith and wife, Karen of Russellville, KY, and Norma Wheeler and husband, Bobby Joe of Danville.

Four grandsons: Brian Wheeler and wife, Nicole of Danville; Steven Wheeler and wife, Heather of Danville; Aaron Smith and wife, Heather of Springfield; and Tyler Smith and wife, Taylor of Reston, VA.

Eight great-grandchildren.

One sister and three brothers: Rebecca Bennett and husband, Bob of Harrodsburg; Nathaniel Smith and wife, Betty of Charlestown, IN; Kenny Smith of Henryville, IN; and Finace Smith and wife, Cindy of Georgetown, IN.

Along with a host of many relatives and friends.

Eugene was preceded in death by five brothers and seven sisters: Gladys Coulter, Calvin Smith, Veneta Burns, Olena Brickner, Hedger Smith, Alma Brown, Marnie Smith, Lottie Combs, Glenn Smith, Sandra Scott, and Victorine Smith.

VISITATION: Monday, November 29th, 2021, from 9am – 11am EST at Lowell Avenue Baptist Church in Campbellsville.

FUNERAL: Monday, November 29th, 2021, at 11 am EST at Lowell Avenue Baptist Church.

With burial to follow at Campbellsville Memorial Gardens. The service will be officiated by Bro. Dave Walters.

Auberry Funeral Home in downtown Campbellsville in charge of all arrangements. 

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for expressions of sympathy be taken in the form of Gideon Bibles and Hosparus of Green River and can be made at the funeral home.

SCOTT MARDIS OBITUARY

Scott Larame Mardis, 44, of Campbellsville, Kentucky, son of Larry Thomas Mardis and Carolyn Ann Shofner Mardis, both of Campbellsville, was born June 27th, 1977, in Taylor County and departed this life on Friday, November 19th, 2021, at his home in Campbellsville.

He professed his faith in Christ at an early age was a firm believer.

Scott worked for Larry’s Construction for over 25 years with his father.  He was an avid reader that enjoyed reading about American history, the Civil War, the Constitution, and politics. He also enjoyed collecting Star Wars memorabilia.

Scott is survived by:

His parents:  Larry Thomas and Carolyn Ann Mardis of Campbellsville.

Two brothers:  James Mardis and his wife, Brandy of Campbellsville, and Jeff Mardis of Campbellsville.

One sister:  Shanon O’Banion and her husband, Jonathan of Campbellsville.

Two uncles:  Terry Mardis and his wife, Debbie and Gary Walters and his wife Denise, all of Campbellsville.

One aunt: Judy Donley Henderson of Sherman, IL.

Three nephews:  Landon O’Banion, Layton O’Banion and Willie Key.

One niece:  Jamie Lynn Mardis.

Along with many other family, friends, and relatives.

VISITATION:  Tuesday, November 23rd, 2021, from 5pm – 8pm EST at Auberry Funeral Home in downtown Campbellsville.

FUNERAL:  Wednesday, November 24th, 2021, at 2pm EST at Auberry Funeral Home in downtown Campbellsville.

Pallbearers:  Jonathan O’Banion, James Mardis, Jesse Walters, Michael Mardis, Brian Mardis and Travis Hunt.

Burial to follow in Brookside Cemetery.

MARTHA “FRANKIE” COX OBITUARY

Martha “Frankie” Frances Cox, 73, of Elkhorn, Kentucky, daughter of the late Willie Malone and Sarah Minor was born November 17th, 1948, in Sonora, raised in Glendale, and departed this life on Wednesday, November 17th, 2021, at Norton’s Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky.

She was married to Steve W. Cox in April 1984, and he preceded her in death on January 18th, 2018.

Frankie professed her faith in Christ and was a member of Fairview Baptist Church in Campbellsville.

Frankie attended Campbellsville University and Columbian Institute where she received many degrees. She received a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. She was a certified paralegal and obtained a degree in Juvenile Delinquency.  Even though she was “retired” from working she was a full-time mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.  Frankie was the official sexton of Tallow Creek Cemetery.

Survived by:

Two daughters:  Stephanie Michelle Travis of Lexington; Elecia Mecole Spaulding and her husband, Andrew, of Campbellsville.

One son:  Bobby Clay Dallas Cox of Elkhorn.

Seven grandchildren:  Steven Blade Thompson of Campbellsville; Austin M. Thompson and wife, Brooke, of Campbellsville; Shayne Murphy of Campbellsville; Wesley Murphy, Jr., of Frankfort; Jared Murphy of Frankfort; Deandre Bell of Campbellsville; and Emani Spaulding of Campbellsville.

One great-grandchild:  Jazmyn RyLee Thompson of Campbellsville.

Two brothers:  Bobby Malone of Vine Grove; Curtis Malone and his wife, Charlotte of Franklin, IN.

Two sisters:  Mary Ann Maupin of Owensboro; Betty Jean Derringer and her husband, Rosco, of Acton.

Along with many other family, relatives, and friends.

Besides her parents and her husband, Frankie is preceded in death by one sister:  Barbara Jean Hill.

VISITATION:  Monday, November 22nd, 2021, from 5pm – 8pm EST at Auberry Funeral Home in downtown Campbellsville.

STANLEY COOMER OBITUARY

Stanley Lee Coomer, age 58, of Campbellsville, KY, passed away on November 2nd, 2021 after a valiant battle against COVID-19.  Stanley was born October 7th, 1963, to Lola Mae Coomer and the late Herbert Coomer.

He married Mary Margret Scott on December 27th, 2014.  They reside in Campbellsville, Kentucky.  Stanley was employed by Hometown Butcher Shop in Columbia.  He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and enjoyed the outdoors.  Making people laugh came natural to him.

Survivors include his mother:  Lola Mae Coomer of Knifely.

His wife:  Mary Margaret Coomer.

Two sisters:  Annie Coomer, of Knifley and Bertha Dabney, and her husband, Terry, of Lebanon, Tennessee.

Three stepdaughters:  Debbie Brady of Lebanon, KY; Patty Raley of St. Mary’s GA; and Vickie Scott of Loretto.

Five step-grandchildren and one step great-grandson.

Five nieces and nephews.

Stan was preceded in death by his father and an infant sibling.

VISITATION:  Friday, November 5th, 2021, from 5pm – 8pm EST at Auberry Funeral Home in downtown Campbellsville.

FUNERAL:  Saturday, November 6th, 2021 at  11am EST at Auberry Funeral Home in downtown Campbellsville.

Burial to follow at Callahan Cemetery.

DOROTHY MAE EDRINGTON OBITUARY

Dorothy Mae Edrington, 93, of Campbellsville, Kentucky, daughter of the late Sam Nelson and Ida Stearman Nelson was born February 18th, 1928, in Taylor County and departed this life on Wednesday, November 3rd, 2021, at Grandview Nursing Home.

She was married to Joe Edrington in 1967 and he preceded her in death on April 4th, 2001.

She professed her faith in Christ and was of Presbyterian faith. She retired from Fruit of the Loom in Campbellsville after 30 years.

Survived by:

Two sons: Richard Simpson and his wife, Sandy, of Campbellsville; Danny Simpson and his wife, Norma, of Campbellsville.

Five grandchildren, and twelve great grandchildren.

Several nieces and nephews along with other family members and friends.

Besides her parents and husband, Mrs. Edrington is preceded in death by:

Two sisters: Bertha Veatch and Ermine Harris.

One brother: Shelby Nelson
