Anna Frances Hogue
Anna Frances Hogue, daughter of George William Jones and Ethel Mary Dearborn Jones was born June 20, 1919 in Cynthiana, Harrison County, Kentucky. She was a student at the Cynthiana Elementary and High Schools. She then attended University of Kentucky in Lexington and Western College in Bowling Green where she received the Bachelor of Science and Master’s Degree in Communications.
Anna Frances married Second Lieutenant Forrest J. Hogue of Mercer County, Kentucky while they were both students at the university. After Forrest’s graduation, they moved to Campbellsville, Kentucky where Forrest was the Assistant Farm Home Administrator for Taylor, Green, Marion and Metcalfe counties. In 1942 Forrest was called to service with the U. S. Army for a period of four years and Anna Frances and their two children went with him and lived in Arkansas, Texas, Georgia, Florida and Kentucky during the duration.
After returning to Campbellsville, Mrs. Hogue worked as an interior designer and operated the Tots and Teens Shop for several years. She then began her teaching career at Campbellsville Elementary School as an eighth grade teacher, and from 1953 until 1976 taught English III, English IV, civics, speech, drama and Black Studies at Campbellsville High School. Her students in speech and drama also participated in debate and were very successful in competitions. One of her students won the NHSSL’s National contest in Dramatic Interpretation in the National Tournament in Kansas City.
Mrs. Hogue was an NHSSL double-diamond coach during her teaching years at CHS. She was also Teacher of the Year, Woman of Achievement, a member of Taylor County Historical Society and the Kentucky Historical Society, Friends of Kentucky Archives and the Taylor County DOD Coordinator of Taylor County WWII Bicentennial Committee for three years. She was a member of the team to move the Friendship School to the campus of Taylor County High School and create an “on hands” museum. Anna was a past president of the Coterie Club, a member of the Taylor County Retired Teachers, a judge of national competition of Drama at Stanford University, a Campbellsville Woman’s Club member and member of the Taylor County Business and Professional Woman’s Club. She also belonged to the Hiestand House Foundation Committee, and was a Kentucky Colonel.
Anna Hogue enjoyed genealogical research and spent much of her spare time in searching the past. She was a life member of the Daughters of the Revolution and served on the National, state and local levels. On the National level, she served on the Resolutions Committee, was an ECD Vice-Chairman of Programs and
Good Citizens, and a member of the Vice Chairmen’ Club, Tammassee School Advisory Board, and Speakers Staff. On the state level, Anna was the State Vice Regent, State Recording Secretary, the KSDAR Yearbook editor, on the Duncan Tavern Board, and the State Officers Club President, vice-president and Past Director. She served as David Allen Chapter Regent, Vice Regent, Secretary, Parliamentarian and chairman of numerous committees. She was a member of the Cameo Club, Mrs. Hogue was a lifetime supporter of the Children of the American Revolution, a member of the N.S.C.A.R. Officers Club, Honorary Senior State President, Senior State President of the Kentucky organization for three years, organized a new local CAR SOCIETY and completed the organization of two other societies.
Mrs. Hogue was also an active member of Colonial Dames of the Seventeenth Century, Daughters of the Union, New England Women, Huguenot Society Founders of Manakin in the Colony of Virginia, National Huguenot Society, Dames of the Court of Honor, Sons and Daughters of the Pilgrims and Bench and Barn.
Anna Hogue became a member of the First Christian Church in Cynthiana, Kentucky when she was nine years old and moved her membership to the Campbellsville Church when she and Forrest first came to Campbellsville. The family moved to Woodlawn Christian Church with a group from the home church to help build the new church. In the late fifties, she moved her membership back to the Campbellsville Christian Church where she taught a Sunday School class and sang in the choir.
Mrs. Hogue is survived by two children: William Perry Hogue of Campbellsville and Ethel Mary Osborne and husband, Paul of Campbellsville; a daughter-in-law, Joy Hogue of Emory, Texas; four granddaughters, Shannon Lynne Brown and husband, Dennis, Anna Laura Humphress and husband, J.D., Leslie Frances Hoffmann and husband, John of Campbellsville and Marilynda Leigh Jacquez and husband, Andy of Apache Junction, Arizona, and two grandsons, Forrest J. Hogue III of Emory, Texas and William Jeffrey Hogue of Tucson, Arizona. Her eleven great-grandchildren are Jessica Frances Bland, Reili and Keeli Farmer, Evan and Sydney Humphress, Diamond Stargel, Brandon and Brhiannon Brown, Andrea, Christopher and Alexander Jacquez; special friends: Heather Brown of Pikeville and Nathan and Rachel Curling of Emory, Texas and several other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by a son, Forrest J. Hogue, Jr.
