Dr. H.E. Coker

Dr. H. E. Coker of Fern Drive, Campbellsville, son of the late Early Eugene Coker and Emily Kitchens Coker, was born in Andersonville, Georgia, October 24, 1920. He died at 4:40 A.M., Thursday, April 17, 2003, in Bardstown. Age: 82He had professed faith in Christ and was a member of the Campbellsville Baptist Church. He graduated from Mercer University in Macon, Georgia, in 1944, with a degree in Christian Studies. He graduated from Southern Baptist Seminary in Louisville, KY, in1948, with a Bachelor of Divinity Degree and received his Doctor of Theology Degree from the same institution in 1953. He served several churches in the South and First Baptist Church, Hodgenville, KY, before coming to Campbellsville University in 1967. He taught in the Christian Studies Division for twenty years and served as chairman of that department.He united in marriage to Mary Ellen Carson March 3, 1944, who survives. Other survivors include one daughter and one son: Suellen Shaw and her husband, Charles and Mark Coker and his wife, Gina; one grandson and his wife, Scott and Beth Shaw; one step-grandson, Alex England; one great-grandson, Benjamin Charles Shaw; all of Campbellsville; one sister, Christine Griggs of Pinehurst, Georgia; several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.He was also preceded in death by one brother and three sisters: Cecil Coker, Bessie Staples, Lucille Norris, and Sue Coker.FUNERAL SERVICES: 1:00 P.M., Saturday, April 19th at the Parrott Ramsey Funeral Home in Campbellsville BURIAL: Brookside Cemetery
