Rev. John W. Farmer

Rev. John W. Farmer of Bordeaux Drive, Lexington, son of the late Alvin Farmer and Nettie Wise Farmer was born in Taylor County, Kentucky, January 20, 1925. He died at 8:57 P.M., Tuesday, September 16, 2003, in Lexington. Age: 78 He professed faith in Christ and was a member of the Palestine Baptist Church. He was a veteran of World War II, having served his country in the United States Army and received the following decorations and citations: Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, Victory Medal, Meritorious Unit Award, Army of Occupation Medal, Japan Army Commendation Ribbon, Good Conduct Ribbon and Two Overseas Service Bars. Rev. Farmer was ordained to the Gospel Ministry December 8, 1949. His pastorates included Pikes Ridge Baptist Church and Walnut Hill Baptist Church, both in Taylor County, Kentucky; Menlo Baptist Church in Menlo, Georgia; Buice Memorial Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia; Little Union Baptist Church in Fairfield, Kentucky; First Baptist Church in Irvine, Kentucky; First Baptist Church in Carrollton, Kentucky and Mt. Gilboa Baptist Church in Campbellsville, Ky. Rev. Farmer was a graduate of Campbellsville University, Campbellsville, Kentucky; Georgetown College, Georgetown, Kentucky and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, Kentucky. He held a Master of Divinity Degree from Southern Seminary. He united in marriage to Bernice Jarboe December 23, 1944. Besides his wife Bernice Farmer of Bordeaux Drive, Lexington, he is survived by one son and his wife, Lynn E. and Nancy Farmer of Lebanon, one daughter and her husband, Karen G. and Tom Marshall of Lexington; four grandchildren and their spouses: Wesley and Aletia Farmer, Seth and Donna Farmer, Tommy and Lindsay Marshall, and Amy and James Chandler of Lexington; three great-grandchildren: Eamon Nasr, Arion Nasr, and Andrew Mercer of Lexington, Kentucky; two sisters: Esther Veatch of Shepherdsville and Mrs. Elliott (Frances) Skaggs of Greenville; several other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by one sister, Ruth Farmer.FUNERAL SERVICES: 2:00 P.M., Sunday, September 21st, at the Parrott Ramsey Funeral Home in Campbellsville by Rev. Bob Justus and Rev. Danny PaceBURIAL: Brookside Cemetery with full Military Honors by the Marion County Veterans Honor Guard.
