House Fire Kills Five Sends Two to Hospital

(Edmonton, KY) – On this date at approximately 0220 hours Kentucky State Police Post 15 – Columbia received a call from Edmonton Dispatch in reference to a house fire at 3120 Sulphur Well Knob Lick Road, Edmonton, KY.  Upon units arriving to the scene, the residence was still too hot to make entry.  Several fire departments responded to the scene to control the fire.

It was determined that fourteen (14) individuals were present in the residence when the fire started, a fire attorney is currently taking in the case.  Two (2) individuals were flown to U of L Hospital, where one (1) was treated and released while the other was admitted.  Seven (7) individuals were transported to TJ Samson Hospital in Glasgow, KY where they were treated and released.

During a subsequent search of the residence five (5) individuals were discovered deceased.  Each of the victims was sent to the Louisville Medical Examiners Office for an autopsy that will be conducted on April 8, 2010.  The names of the victims will be released following the autopsy once positive identification is determined.

The cause and origin have not been determined at this time.

KSP Arson Investigators Alex Wesley (Post 15 – Columbia) and David West (Post 3 – Bowling Green) are assisting Detective Israel Sinker in the investigation.  Kentucky State Police was assisted at the scene by the State Fire Marshall, Metcalfe County Sheriffs Department, North Metcalfe Fire Department, Edmonton Fire Department, Hiseville Fire Department (Barren County), and Emergency Management.

* UPDATE *

In reference to the fatal house fire that occurred on April 7, 2010 at 3120 Sulphur Well Knob Lick Road in Metcalfe County, no foul play suspected.  The preliminary cause of the fire was determined to be an electrical wiring malfunction that originated in the front of the residence.  A final report is pending.

As a result of the fire, five (5) individuals passed away and one (1) individual is currently admitted to U of L Hospital and listed in critical condition.  The following is a list of the names and ages of the individuals that are deceased:
