Mr. Carl Odell Smith of Paducah was born on January 29, 1929 in Martin, Tennessee and departed this life on Thursday, December 9, 2017 in Campbellsville. Son of the late Farris and Eva (White) Smith, he was 88 years, 10 months, and 11 days of age. He had made a profession of faith in Christ and was of the Methodist faith. As a young man, he answered the call to duty and served his country honorably in the United States Navy. He married his sweetheart, May Smith, and they shared many happy years until her passing. Mr. Smith was a retired electricity lineman, and an upstanding member of the International Brotherhood of Electric Workers Local 816, where he remained active until his death.
He leaves to cherish his memory:
One brother: Farris Smith, Jr. and wife Betty of Tennessee,
Special lifelong friends and caretakers: Jerry and Diane Carter of Campbellsville, and their family, Jesse, Russell, and Tonya,
And several other relatives and friends.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Robert Smith, and a sister, Nancy Pate.
At the request of Mr. Smith, cremation rites were accorded him by the L.R. Petty Funeral Home, Campbellsville, KY. Along with his wife, he will be interred in the Woodlawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Paducah, KY at a later date.
Mr. Smith had a passion for helping others, and had a soft spot in his heart for children and animals. To honor that spirit, please consider memorials in the form of donations to your local animal shelter.
