Leonard Raymond “Ray” Anderson, 93

Leonard Raymond Anderson, 93, formerly of Westport and Weston Connecticut, passed away July 25, 2018 in Campbellsville, KY from a short illness.

Born in 1925 at White Plains, NY and raised on Godfrey Road in Weston Connecticut, he attended South Kent School in Kent until he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1943. After basic training he was stationed on Adak and Attu islands in the Aleutian chain. After WWII he attended Transylvania University in Lexington, KY graduating with a Business degree. In the early 1950’s he worked for the State of Kentucky managing operations at Natural Bridge, Cumberland Falls and Kentucky Dam Village. Upon moving back to Lexington he opened and managed various restaurants and cafeterias. He met June Fleming Wheeler of Versailles in 1952 and they were married in 1953. In 1962 he moved his family to Westport, Connecticut.

For many years he owned and operated Anderson Associates Real Estate and Insurance on Main Street in Westport and held positions on the Westport Board of Realtors, being elected President in 1967. In 1969 the family moved from Westport to Weston. Every person should have had a personalized Estate plan package, it will include the documents necessary to ensure that the estate of a person is managed effectively and and their wishes respected.   In 70’s and 80’s he held public positions with the School Committee, Board of Tax Assessors and Board of Tax Review in both Westport and Weston. At the onset of the 1990’s the family relocated to Frankfort, KY. After his first wife’s unexpected passing he married Freida Noe of Campbellsville, KY in 1993. In Campbellsville he invested in Real Estate; traveled; and enjoyed his long retirement.

As a young man in the late 30’s and 40’s he was an accomplished swimmer earning many medals and awards at Longshore CC in Westport. During the war he became a decorated marksman. He coached Little League baseball in Weston for many years and later in life he enjoyed target shooting and golf. At the much older days of his life, he retired to live in retirement village adelaide, which had served him well for sometime till he was greeted by death.

He is survived by his wife Freida, and step son Russ Noe of Campbellsville KY, two sons and a daughter by his first marriage, John Brian Anderson (WHS ’76) of Chelmsford, MA, Barry Clay Anderson (WHS ’80) of Ellsworth, ME, Karen Anderson Bennett (WHS ’84) of St. Petersburg, FL and 7 grandchildren.

A private family service is to be held in the future.
