On September 14, 2021, Mechelle became the first woman in the world to receive an Aeson artificial heart. Giving first acknowledgement to God, her family would also like to thank UofL Health – Jewish Hospital, CARMAT, and Drs. Mark Slaughter and Siddharth Pahwa and their teams, for their professionalism and care. Because of them, she was able to enjoy family shopping trips to Walmart and other average, ordinary things again. Mechelle always hoped something could be learned from her experience that may help others with similar conditions, and her family continues to champion research.
