Charles Mattingly, 82

Mr. Charles William “Old Man Bill” Mattingly was born in Marion County, KY on October 12, 1932 to the late Jesse Smothers and Mary Nettie Mattingly. He departed this life at the Taylor Regional Hospital in Campbellsville on December 11, 2014, having attained the age of 82 years, 1 month, and 29 days. As a young man, Mr. Mattingly started farm work for Reuben Blandford in Marion County; soon after, he made farming his career. He had an enduring love for all things outdoors, and was very passionate about growing roses. Although never proven, some claim he could even coax rose sprouts from a rock. Mr. Mattingly made a profession of faith in Christ, and was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church in Loretto. He married Edna Evelyn Mattingly, who preceded him in death in December 1967. Some years later, he married Gladys Katherine Mattingly, who survives.

Besides his wife, Mr. Mattingly leaves to cherish his memory:
A son: Billy Mattingly of Raywick,
A daughter and step-son: Gayle and Paul “Buddy” McNear of Campbellsville,
Step-children: Treccia Buckman and husband David of Raywick, Nancy McNear of Somerset, Joyline Bentley of Elkhorn, and Jimmy Raikes of Campbellsville,
A former son-in-law: Timmy Johnson of Campbellsville,
A former daughter-in-law: Sissy Mattingly,
A brother: R.E. Minor of Indiana,
Twenty-five grandchildren, including a special grandchild: “Little Neal”
Several great-grandchildren, and a host of other extended family and friends.

Besides his parents and first wife, Mr. Mattingly was also preceded in death by:
A daughter, Nadine Johnson,
A step-son, David Raikes,
A son-in-law: Tom Underwood,
And one brother: Jack Mattingly.

There will be funeral service to honor the life of Mr. Mattingly on Monday, December 15, 2014 at 10:00 AM at the L.R. Petty Funeral Home, 1765 New Columbia Rd, Campbellsville, KY 42718. Bro. Jeff Edwards will be officiating. Interment will follow in the Old Liberty Cemetery, Marion County, KY.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, December 13, from 6:00-8:00 PM, on Sunday, December 14, from 10:00AM – 8:00PM, and on Monday, December 15, from 8:00 AM until time for the service.

Richard McDonald, 40

McDonald PicMr. Richard Lee McDonald, age 40, of Campbellsville, passed away on Wednesday in Louisville at the Jewish Hospital.

Survivors include his parents: George and Diane Shofner McDonald of Campbellsville.

Four children: Josh Cloyd, Ricky Lee McDonald, Austin McDonald and Alley McDonald all of Campbellsville.

Two brothers: Travis Dale McDonald and wife Amanda and Cody McDonald and wife Beth all of Campbellsville.

His grandparents: Alvin and Mildred Shofner of Greensburg.

His companion: Sonya Lane of Campbellsville.

Nieces and nephews: Sydney McDonald, Destiny Abell, Xavier McDonald, Karley McDonald and on the way.

The funeral service for Mr. Richard Lee McDonald, will be conducted Saturday at 2:00 P.M. at the L.R. Petty Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Jones Chapel Cemetery.

Visitation from 5-8 PM on Friday at the L.R. Petty Funeral Home in Campbellsville.

Family requests expressions of sympathy be a donation to the funeral expense fund and can be made at the funeral home.

Rosa Betty Clements, 62

ClementsMrs. Rosa Betty Clements of Elkhorn passed from this life on December 10, 2014 at her home. She was 62 years, 9 months, and 24 days of age. She was the only child born to the late China Elizabeth (Morgan) Airensmier and the cherished wife of David Clements, who survives.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Clements leaves to cherish her memory:
One son: Thomas Wayne Morgan of Campbellsville,
One daughter: Amy Beth Baldwin and husband Danny of Campbellsville,
Four grandchildren: Kimberly Thompson of Campbellsville, Renee Goodin of Knifely, Jesse Durham of Campbellsville, and Brandon Morgan of Russell Springs,
Two great-grandchildren: Brianna Hayes and Kylie Thompson, both of Campbellsville,
And a host of extended family and friends.

She was also preceded in death by two grandsons, Thomas Morgan and David Thomas Morgan.

There will be a funeral service to honor the life of Mrs. Rosa Clements on Friday, December 12, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the L.R. Petty Funeral Home, 1765 New Columbia Rd., Campbellsville, KY 42718. Bro. Danny Baldwin will be officiating.
Interment will follow in the Saint Bernard Cemetery in Clementsville, Casey County, KY.

Shelby Jean McClements, 78

McClementsMrs. Shelby Jean (Liggett) McClements, of Campbellsville, passed away peacefully at her home on December 5, 2014. She was 78 years, 10 months, and 3 days of age. She was the daughter of the late Arthur Clarence and Hattie Beatrice (Richards) Liggett. She retired from Square D (Schneider Electric Co.) in Lexington in August of 1993, and spent the rest of her years being a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

She is survived by:
Two sons: Lee Gaines and wife Leslie of Campbellsville, and John Gaines and wife Faye of Lancaster,
Three daughters: Ruth-Anne Hurst of Lexington, Margaret Jean Arzaria and husband Junior of Elizabethtown, and Donna Jones and husband Charles of San Antonio, TX,
One step-son: David McClements of Lexington,
Six siblings: Nancy Raffitt of Nicholasville, Marie Elam and husband Asa of Mt. Sterling, Carl Liggett of Mt. Sterling, Robert Liggett of Camargo, Kelly Liggett and wife Barbara of Winchester, and Bessie Liggett of Ohio,
A host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and other extended family and friends.

There will be a funeral service to honor the life of Mrs. Shelby Jean McClements conducted at 1:30 PM on December 8, 2014 at the Camp Nelson National Cemetery, 6980 Danville Rd, Nicholasville, KY 40356, where her beloved husband Melvin lies at rest. Dr. Wesley Paul, Hosparus of Green River Chaplain, will be officiating. Interment will follow in the cemetery.

Judy Lawler, 66

Lawler pic Mrs. Judy May Lawler of Campbellsville, passed away on November 24, 2014, at the Taylor Regional Hospital after a sudden illness. She was 66 years of age. A native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, she moved with her family at a young age to Chicago, Illinois where she was raised. She was the daughter of the late Elsi May (Lewis) and William Russell Sturgis, Sr. Mrs. Lawler was a doting homemaker who took special pride in her grandchildren. She was a bingo fanatic, and would play at every opportunity.

Mrs. Lawler is survived by:
Four children: Tina Marie Gutierrez Porter and husband John Paul, Sr., Manuel Gutierrez, Jr. and wife Carol, John Paul Gutierrez, Sr. and wife Crystal Dale, and Angelina Christina Waldron and husband Sean Patrick, Sr., all of Campbellsville,
Two brothers: William Russell “Bill” Sturgis and wife Linda, and Chuck Sturgis and wife Rebecca, all of Pennsylvania,
Her ex-husband: Manuel Gutierrez, Sr. and wife Dana of Campbellsville,
A special friend and bingo buddy: Rosie Osinger,
A host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren,
And several other family and friends.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Robert Michael Gutierrez, Sr., and a sister, Martha Ann Hostler.

There will be a graveside service to honor the life of Mrs. Lawler on Thursday, November 27, 2014, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church Cemetery, Campbellsville, KY, at 10:00 AM. Deacon Joe Dant will be officiating.
