Norman J. Smith, Born July 9, 1939 in Adair County, KY to Charlie and Eula Smith was a beloved Father, Husband, Brother and Grandpa passed away peacefully Sunday, August 24, 2025 after a brief but aggressive bout with cancer. Norman married the love of his life Shirley Baute in 1962. They had two daughters, Debra and Anita, before The Lord took Shirley suddenly in 1971. Norman was determined to raise his daughters the best he could and managed a decent living as a Heavy Equipment Operator eventually joining the International Union of Operator Engineers which he was a good standing member of through his retirement and until his passing. Norman found love again later in life by marrying Gloria D. McIver in 1992. Norman and Gloria spent their retirement years between Kentucky and eventually settled back into the Inverness community in Florida until Gloria’s passing in 2023. Norman spent the last 2 ½ years living close to his daughter, Anita and her family, in Valrico, FL in a beautiful independent living community, Osprey Heights. Norman loved bluegrass and country music, fishing, working in the yard and he loved his girl’s and grandchildren. Norman accepted The Lord Jesus Christ as his personal savior shortly before his death and is Heaven Bound! Norman was preceded in death by his parents, his wives, his daughter Debra and several sisters and brothers. He is survived by his daughter Anita Cabrera (Lou) and Grandchildren Jonluke, Rachel, Travis, Danielle and Amber Cabrera. He is also survived by his sister Fannie Mae Jacobs (Homer) and brother Glen Smith who reside in Kentucky. Norman is also survived by two nieces who continually visited him and stayed in constant contact with him literally up until his death, Lori and Jennifer Moss. Thank you to Jason’s Place on Stonehill for Norman’s excellent personal care in his last days.
The funeral service was held Thursday, August 28 at Bell Shoals Church (Chapel) 2102 Bell Shoals Rd. Brandon, FL 33511. Burial is at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, August 30, 2025 at Harden Cemetery.

Susan Pendleton of Campbellsville, daughter of the late Noah Garrett and Dora Tucker Garrett, was born March 15, 1935 in Taylor County, Kentucky. She died at 9:10 P.M., Monday, August 25, 2025 in Campbellsville. Age: 90
She professed faith in Christ and was a member of Beech Grove Baptist Church.
She united in marriage to Raymond Pendleton October 12, 1956 and he preceded her in death August 4, 2025.
Susan was a retired employee of Fruit of the Loom in Campbellsville.
She is survived by a great-niece, several nieces and nephews, a special caregiver, Margaret Skaggs and a host of relatives and friends.
Susan was also preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters: Jesse Garrett, William Ed Garrett, Earl Garrett, Estelle Cox, Ada Cox and a sister in infancy.

Donald Penn of Mannsville, son of the late George Wallace Penn and Mildred St. Clair Penn, was born August 29, 1935 in Taylor County, Kentucky. He died at 7:26 P.M., Tuesday, August 19, 2025 in Campbellsville. Age: 89
He professed faith in Christ and was a member of Mannsville Methodist Church.
Donnie was a self-employed cattle farmer and founder of Penn’s Country Hams.
He is survived by one son and one daughter: John Penn and wife, Tana of Elk Horn and Rhonda Pennington and husband, Barry of Campbellsville; two grandchildren: Blake Penn and wife, Aquelia and Lindsey Sharp and husband, John of Mannsville; five great-grandchildren: Cerity Penn, Peyton Penn, Julie Sharp, Caven Penn and Logan Sharp and many other relatives and friends.

Clyde Hayes of Campbellsville, son of the late Arthur Harlan Hayes and Bessie Sidebottom Hayes, was born September 26, 1932 in Taylor County, Kentucky. He died at 11:48 A.M., Tuesday, August 19, 2025 in Campbellsville. Age: 92
He professed faith in Christ and was a member of Palestine Baptist Church.
Clyde owned and operated Creative Press for over 60 years and was a long-time farmer at heart.
He united in marriage to Ruth Ann Karnes May 9, 1981.
Besides his wife, Ruth Ann Hayes of Campbellsville, Clyde is survived by four sons and two daughters: Tommy Hayes and wife, Peggy, Larry Hayes, Timmy Hayes and Shondah Cox and husband, Tim of Campbellsville, Ricky Hayes and wife, Kelli of Harrodsburg and Kristie Hayes DuSharm of Glasgow; fourteen grandchildren: John, Kim, Nikki, Kayla, Matthew, Ashley, Candace, Thomas, Tara, Morgann, Lexi, Reif, Kamree and Jayden; ten great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Bobby Ray Hayes August 16, 2022, a great-grandchild, Taylor Hayes and one brother and one sister: Auburn Hayes and Roberda McCubbin.

Dr. James Allen Ewing, affectionately known as “Big Doc” or “Poppa Doc”, the son of the late John Henry Ewing, Jr. and Vivian Muster Ewing, was born on January 22, 1942, in Green County, Kentucky. He passed away peacefully on Friday, August 15, 2025, at 6:38 AM in Campbellsville, Kentucky, at the age of 83.
He was united in marriage to Betty Bower Ries on May 1, 1965, and she preceded him in death on March 24, 2024. Dr. Ewing was devoted to Betty for 58 years, cherishing their life together and the family they built.
Dr. Ewing professed faith in Christ and was a devoted member of Bethel First Presbyterian Church, where he faithfully served as an elder. He was also a proud veteran of the United States Navy.
Dr. Ewing graduated from Greensburg High School in 1960, where he excelled in athletics, receiving All-State honors in basketball and track. He played varsity basketball on a scholarship at Kentucky Wesleyan College and later attended the University of Louisville School of Medicine. He completed his internship at Tampa General Hospital and afterward entered the United States Navy, where he was stationed in Pensacola, Florida, and Beeville, Texas as a flight surgeon. After an honorable discharge, he and Betty chose Campbellsville, KY to establish a general medical practice. After 2 ½ years, he moved to Tampa, FL to specialize in ear, nose and throat at the University of South Florida. He returned to Campbellsville in 1978 and continued to grow his practice until his retirement in 2017. Dr. Ewing served as an ENT surgeon at Taylor Regional Hospital, providing decades of dedicated care to his patients.
He was a respected member of numerous professional organizations, including the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, the American College of Surgeons, the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, and the American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy. Deeply involved in his community, he served as past president of the Campbellsville Rotary Club, the Campbellsville-Taylor County Chamber of Commerce, the Taylor County Medical Staff, and the Kentucky ENT Society.
Dr. Ewing loved living life to the fullest and enjoyed spending time with family and friends boating at Green River Lake. He treasured vacationing in Marco Island, FL, cheering on the University of Kentucky Wildcats in both football and basketball, enjoying photography, hunting duck and dove, and driving his tractor on his farm.
He is survived by his children: Dr. Jimmy Ewing and his wife Pam of Campbellsville, Jennifer Meyers and her husband Chuck of Erlanger, and Jill Lee and her husband Keith of Frankfort. He was a beloved grandfather to Shelby Ewing Gatlin and her husband Bryan, Ries Ewing and his wife Kelsey, Jennifer Mason Lee, Walker Lee, Carson Meyers, and Cooper Meyers, and a proud great-grandfather to Grayson Gatlin, Kennedy Gatlin, and Brooks Ewing. Dr. Ewing is also survived by two brothers, Jack Ewing and his wife Connie of Leitchfield, and Joe Ewing and his wife Cecilia of Nashville. He is further survived by his bonus daughter and devoted caregiver, Amanda McNeill of Campbellsville, along with several nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends who loved him dearly. His faithful dog, Coalby, will also mourn his passing.
Visitation: Monday, August 18, 2025, 5:00 – 8:00 PM at Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home, Campbellsville, KY.
Funeral Service: Tuesday, August 19, 2025, 11:00 AM at Bethel First Presbyterian Church, 502 East Main St., Campbellsville, KY
Additional visitation will be held from 10:00 – 11:00 AM prior to the service, at the Church.
