Evelyn Henry Rice

Evelyn Henry Rice of Wetumpka, Alabama, formerly of Campbellsville, daughter of the late Howard Lee Henry and Blanche Rattliff Henry, was born in Nicholas County, Kentucky, June 10, 1907.  She died at 5:45 A.M., Friday, January 25, 2013, in Wetumpka, Alabama.

Age:   105

She professed faith in Christ and was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

She was a graduate of Winchester High School, Kentucky Wesleyan College and did graduate studies at the University of Kentucky.

She was a retired schoolteacher, having taught in Harlan County and Campbellsville High School. While teaching at Campbellsville High School she taught English, Latin, Social Studies and almost any other subject that needed a teacher. She was Senior Class Sponsor for 30 years, editor of the yearbook for 24 years, and cheerleader sponsor for 10 years. She didn’t like retirement so she worked as a Customer Service Representative for Taylor County Bank for ten years. She was a member of the Campbellsville Woman’s Club, member and past regent of the David Allen Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Campbellsville Coterie Club and treasurer for many years of Friends of the Library.

She united in marriage to Dr. Howard Rice, DDM June 20, 1931.  He preceded her in death February 5, 1996.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Howard Henry and Glenda Rice of Wetumpka, Alabama; three grandchildren: Howard Christopher Rice and wife, Ange of Fitzpatrick, Alabama, Evelyn Rice O’Leary and husband, Joseph of Birmingham, Alabama and Charles Jeffrey Rice and wife, Cecile of Montgomery, Alabama; six great-grandchildren:  Jeffrey Taylor Rice, Charles Jacob Rice, Kendall Anne Rice, Phillip Matthew Howard Rice, Michael Christopher O’Leary and William Henry O’Leary; several other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by two brothers: William Howard Henry and Charles Rattliff Henry.

Megan C. Davis of Portsmouth, Ohio, formerly of Campbellsville, son of the late I. I. Davis and Olive Spurling Davis, was born in Bullitt County, Kentucky, September 29, 1924.  He died at 1:05 P.M., Monday, January 14, 2013 in Portsmouth, Ohio.     Age:   88

He was a veteran of World War II, having served his country honorably in the United States Marine Corps.

He united in marriage to Martha Taylor July 18, 1940.

Besides his wife, Martha Davis, he is survived by one son, Jerry C. Davis and one  granddaughter, Sherry Ann Davis of Florida.

He was also preceded in death by a son, Terry T. Davis March 25, 2008.

Entombment was at Woodlawn Memory Gardens in St. Petersburg, Florida.

Hazel Lacy

Hazel Lacy of Campbellsville, daughter of the late George E. Tucker and Eliza Phillips Tucker was born December 26, 1922 in Taylor County, Kentucky. She died at5:00 P.M., Friday, January 18, 2013 in Campbellsville. Age: 90

She professed faith in Christ and was a member of Liberty Baptist Church.

She was a retired laboratory technician for Dr. Henry F. Chambers and other physicians for some forty years.

She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Pitman Chapter 157, The Taylor County Homemakers Club and a past board member of the Taylor County Extension Service.

She united in marriage to James Charlie Lacy December 13, 1939. He preceded her in death February 17, 1989.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Lois Lacy of Campbellsville; a daughter-in-law, Sue Lacy of The Villages, Florida; five grandchildren: Phillip M. Lacy, Jr. and wife, Kim of Tennessee, LeAnn L. Magre and husband, Mike and Jeanne Burton of Louisville and Paula C. Evans and husband, Daniel and David Harris and wife Starr of Campbellsville; eight great-grandchildren: J.C., Lacy, Autumn, Trey, Colin, Nora, Jordan, and Josh.

She was preceded in death by one son, Phillip M. Lacy, Sr. and two sisters: Geneva Phillips and Grace Knuckles.

EDWARD WINSTON (ED) McGUIRE

Edward Winston (Ed) McGuire of Campbellsville, son of the late William Winston McGuire and Gwendolyn Seaton McGuire was born in Boyd County, Kentucky, February 14, 1939.  He died at 10:20 P.M., Saturday, January 12, 2013, in Campbellsville.     Age:   73

He professed faith in Christ and was a member of Liberty Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday School for more than twenty-five years.

He has been affiliated with WTCO for more than 50 years; he was an educator with Taylor County Schools as a teacher and administrator; was with KET for 25 years as an educational consultant; and for many years was an instructor and consultant to Broadcast Service s at Campbellsville University.

He united in marriage to Wilma Wise July 22, 1965.

Besides his wife, Wilma W. McGuire, he is survived by two daughters: Donna M. Berry and husband, Michael of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Lora M. Werner of Versailles; four grandchildren:  Claire Berry Hebert and husband, Dustin of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Benjamin Thomas Werner and wife, Jessica of Lafayette, Louisiana, Anne Winston Berry and fiancé, Ross LeBlanc of New Orleans, Louisiana, and Edward Terrell Werner of Greensboro, North Carolina; one brother: David S. McGuire and wife, Melissa of Newburgh, Indiana; several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.

Kenneth Hayes of Elkhorn, son of the late Luther Hayes and Catherine Herron Hayes was born in Taylor County, Kentucky, April 8, 1929. He died at 8:40 A.M., Friday, January 11, 2013, in Elkhorn.   Age: 83

He professed faith in Christ and was a member of the Stoner Creek United Methodist Church.

He was a retired employee with the Campbellsville Water Company.

He united in marriage to Frances Perkins on January 12, 1951. She preceded him in death September 16, 2012.

He is survived by two sons and one daughter: Keith Hayes and wife, Connie and Kent Hayes and wife, Leah of Elkhorn and Karen Bishop and husband, Joey of Greensburg; nine grandchildren: Emily Jeffries and husband, Kevin, Kara Hargan and husband, Jon, Kendra Darnell and husband, John, Gary Wethington and wife, Tonya, Chad Hayes, Chris Hayes, Zach Hayes, Karly Hayes, and Braysen Hayes; five great-grandchildren: Jaidyn Darnell, Kylee Hargan, Cager Jeffries, Austin Wethington and Adrianna Wethington; and many other relatives and friends.

He was also preceded in death by one brother: Delmar Hayes, September 4, 2002.
