Frank J. Metzmeier loved life. He lived with a fierce determination to enjoy everything—big and small—and to improve the world he lived in.
His scientific curiosity made him a leader in his 44-year career as a dentist. In his unceasing effort to improve his skills and learn new things, he joined the Panky Study group where he made friends who were also dedicated to excellence. He used his skills to help others by providing free dental care to children in need in the Taylor County School System.
Frank was a dedicated follower of Christ. He attended Bethel First Presbyterian where he was part of the men’s study group and served as elder. He adopted the adage, “Preach the gospel at all times and if necessary, use words.”
He was an avid outdoorsman and took seriously his commitment to care for creation. Frank loved to fish and to hunt deer, birds, and squirrel. He was an enthusiastic gardener and shared any surplus vegetables with friends and neighbors. He also enjoyed marathon sessions of canning tomatoes or making apple cider. He used his resources to ensure that some of Taylor County would remain a wooded area.
Frank lived by the words, “If it’s to be, it’s up to me.” This belief led him to take on several leadership roles including serving a term as the president of the Kentucky Dental Association, and serving on the Campbellsville City Council for many years. Frank loved ice cream and fireworks. His 4th of July parties featuring both eventually grew into Campbellsville’s 4th of July celebration.
Frank was dedicated to his friends and his family. He was ready and willing to lend a hand at all times. He set the example and frequently admonished his children and grandchildren to do what they loved and to do their best at it.
Frank Joseph Metzmeier is preceded in death by his mother, Mary Gore Metzmeier, aunt and uncle, Gladys and Elam Moss, and aunt Pauline Frize, all of Campbellsville. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Clara Lancaster Metzmeier of Campbellsville, brother, Don Gore Metzmeier of Campbellsville, children Dorothy Metzmeier Walker (John) of Clear Spring, MD; Mary Atwood Metzmeier of Cincinnati, OH; and Frank Joseph Metzmeier, Jr. (Trese Frowein) of Monticello, KY. He is also survived by grandchildren Frank Diego Metzmeier and Clara Coleen Marisol Metzmeier of Cincinnati, niece Lorraine Allen of Hurleyville, NY, and many friends.

Mildred Matthews White, beloved mother, wife, sister, and aunt of Campbellsville, passed away peacefully on August 23. Born on December 28, 1929, in Fordsville, Ky (Ohio County), to the late Rev. RV Matthews and Anna Belle Clark Matthews. Mildred’s early childhood revolved around her father’s ministry as a Methodist minister. This journey involved moving around western Kentucky until her father’s death in 1939. Her strong mother then moved the family of nine children to Columbia, to be near Lindsey Wilson College to avail her children, as children of the clergy, the opportunity to attend college.
In 1947 Mildred married James Louis White. She and James Louis lived in Campbellsville their entire married life but found much joy in travel. Family vacations when the children were younger to broaden their education, Toby Tours bus trips with local friends, and five special trips to Hawaii created wonderful memories for many years. She was a dedicated mother whether she was spending hours and hours on the hot baseball field supporting Mike pitching from Little League to Campbellsville High School baseball teams or delicately working over her sewing machine to reproduce some ‘fashion’ that Connie thought she just had to have.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, her son Mike, her husband, one sister: Clara Conover and four brothers: Jessie Matthews, Carroll Matthews, Tom Matthews, and Richard (Dick) Matthews.
Mildred was a dedicated member of the First United Methodist Church in Campbellsville and enjoyed singing in the church choir, quilting for fundraisers with her quilting buddies, and being available for any and all projects from Women’s Circle to Vacation Bible School…she was there any time the doors were open. Mildred became very enthusiastic with the Guidepost Sweater Project in the 1990s, crocheting over 200 sweaters for needy children. She was an exceptional self-taught quilter and awarded three ribbons at the Kentucky State Fair Quilting competition in 1998, the most coveted one for the statewide second place in the hand-pieced, hand-quilted category.
Mildred and James Louis established a Chemistry Scholarship in their daughter’s name at Kentucky Wesleyan College to support other chemistry majors in their college journey. She was also supportive of Lindsey Wilson College and the Rev. RV and Anna Belle Matthews Scholarship for ministerial students and the Rev. RV and Anna Belle Matthews Prayer Room for students to have a space for reflection.
Mildred is survived by her daughter: Connie Gayle White, MD (David Webster, DDS) of Frankfort, step-granddaughter: Kimberlyn Headley (Price) and precious great-granddaughter: Elise. She is also survived by three sisters: Tula Matthews Hoover Peterson of Campbellsville, Christine Greenman of Winchester, Indiana, and Virginia Ward (Bill) of Madison, Indiana, as well as 13 nieces and nephews. She has also had the support of Judy Keltner, her companion for 13 years.
