Pedestrian Struck by Vehicle

Location: Kroger Green River Plaza

Campbellsville Police Officers along with Campbellsville Taylor County Rescue Squad responded to Kroger in Green River Plaza to a call that a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle. 26 year old Nicole Paige of Campbellsville had been struck in the elbow by the mirror of a 2008 Ford Expedition driven by 63 year old Paul Scott of Louisville. Paige was transported to Taylor Regional Hospital by Campbellsville Taylor County Rescue Squad.

Kentucky’s jobless rate drops to 10.4 percent in May

FRANKFORT, Ky.  — Kentucky’s seasonally adjusted preliminary unemployment rate fell to 10.4 percent in May 2010 from a revised 10.6 percent in April 2010, according to the Office of Employment and Training (OET), an agency of the Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet.

Preacher charged with sex crimes

(Columbia, KY.) – 42-year-old Carlos Mendez-Almendra of 2227 Cane Valley Road in Columbia has been indicted in Taylor and Adair Counties for sex crimes.   Mendez-Almendra was indicted by the Taylor County Grand Jury for First Degree Sexual Abuse and Intimidating a Witness and by the Adair County Grand Jury for First Degree Rape and Sexual misconduct in related cases.

The investigation is on-going and the indictments are the result of complaints filed in mid April of this year.  Mendez-Almendra was the preacher at a Spanish speaking church, Apostoles Prophetas, on Ky 531 in Adair County. The church has been closed.  Detective B.J. Burton is investigating.

Plane Crash at Taylor County Airport

A single engine Cessna 170, piloted by Dale Willis and passenger, Barry Smith crashed about 9pm at Taylor County Airport. Both occupants are Taylor County residents and were transported to Taylor Regional Hospital by Taylor County Rescue. Willis was later taken to the  U of L Hospital by Air Evac.

The FAA will investigate the crash Sunday to determine the cause of the crash.

Juveniles Struck by Vehicle

(Columbia, KY) – On Saturday, June 5 at approximately 6:38 CST units from KSP Post 15, Columbia, responded to a residence at 1755 McClendon Ridge Road in Russell County.  36-year-old Jennifer Hardin of Russell Springs had arrived at the residence to pick up her son following a birthday party.  As she was leaving, she turned her vehicle around in an adjacent yard and struck two juveniles that were playing in the yard.  Both juveniles were transported by Russell County EMS to the Russell County Hospital.  4-year-old Lilla Brizendine was pronounced dead at the Russell County Hospital and 8-year-old Gabrielle York was airlifted to Kosair Children’s Hospital in Louisville.  The investigation is continuing and updates will be released as more information is obtained.  Tpr. Injury Accident at the Intersection of Lebanon Avenue and West Lake Drive

Tyler Pippin of Campbellsville, operating a 2003 Volkswagon was traveling northbound on Lebanon Avenue and failed to see a 2001 Daewoo being operated by Shawn T. Mann of Campbellsville stopped on the Lebanon Avenue. The Mann vehicle was waiting to make a left hand turn from Lebanon Avenue onto West Lake Drive. The Pippin vehicle struck the Mann vehicle in the rear. Pippin and a passenger in the Mann vehicle, William P. Covin was transported to Taylor Regional Hospital for treatment.

Agencies Involved: Campbellsville Police Department, Campbellsville Fire, and Campbellsville Taylor County Rescue.

Investigating Officers:            Officer Jason Simpson investigated.
