Phyllis Tungate

Phyllis Tungate of Campbellsville, daughter of the late Hub Morris and Alma Morris, was born December 18, 1946 in Taylor County, Kentucky.  She died at 8:08 P.M, Wednesday, November 20, 2024 in Campbellsville.    Age: 77

She professed faith in Christ and was a member of Campbellsville Baptist Temple.

She was a retired hem sleeve employee with Fruit of the Loom in Campbellsville and had also worked at Campbellsville Apparel.

Phyllis united in marriage to Eric Tungate fifty-nine years ago.

She was a devoted wife and mother,

Besides her husband, Eric Tungate of Campbellsville, Phyllis is survived by one son and one daughter:  Timmy Tungate and wife, Rockie of Greensburg and Tammy Thompson of Campbellsville; six grandchildren:  Kyle Tungate (Sam Allen), Shalyn Perkins (Matthew Perkins), Tyler Thompson (Andrea Bault), Lukas Tungate (Kelly Woody), Landace Tungate (Jeremy DeSpain) and Leaha Tungate; five great-grandchildren and one on the way:  Jayden Etherton, Thea Tungate, Axton Tungate, Penelope Perkins and Dallas DeSpain; two special grandchildren:  Audrey Judd and Gracie Judd; one sister, Shirldean Carter of Campbellsville; several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.

Phyllis was also preceded in death by a brother, George Lindsay.

Rodger Glenn Alvin Cox

Rodger Glenn Alvin Cox of Campbellsville, KY, the son of the late Wallace Alvin Cox and Naomi Jean Wise Cox was born on December 28, 1948, in the Gaddis Ridge Community of Taylor County, KY, and departed this life on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at the Taylor Regional Hospital in Campbellsville. He was 75 years of age.

He professed faith in Christ and was a member of the Farmers Chapel First Church of God. He was a graduate of the University of Kentucky and received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Louisville – Brandeis School of Law. He worked as an attorney for many years. He enjoyed reading and watching movies but he enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife Elizabeth Benningfield Cox and two step-children: Nicholas Murray and his wife Brook of California, and Miles Murray and fiance’ Brandy and her children Brylee and Layla of Campbellsville. Six Step-grandchildren: Carter, Jack, Dominic, Ian, Ethan, and Pearl.

Also surviving are four brothers and four sisters: Mitchell Cox (Cindy) of Campbellsville, Gary Cox (Kay) of Campbellsville, Ricky Cox (Connie) of Elizabethtown, Donnie Cox (Cheryl) of London, Barbara Gribbins (Greg) of Campbellsville, Cheryl Sullivan (Randy) of Campbellsville, Nancy Cox and husband Justin Galli of New York, Connie Arnold (Jeff) of Campbellsville along with a host of brother-in-law’s, sister-in-law’s, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother: Robert Cox

Cremation was chosen and there will be a graveside service for Rodger Glenn Alvin Cox on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at 1:00 P.M. at the Jones Chapel Cemetery in Elk Horn.

Betty E. Johns

Betty E. Johns, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, passed away peacefully on November 18, 2024, at the age of 82. She was born on April 14, 1942, to Arthur and Evelyn Upchurch, who preceded her in death.

Betty is survived by her devoted husband, Kevin Johns, with whom she shared many wonderful years. She is also survived by her loving children, Sherry Bowen and her husband, Larry, and Allen Gaddis and his wife, Tonia. Betty also loved and cherished her five grandchildren: Amelia Bowen, Jessa, Jaxon, June and Jenny Gaddis, who brought her immense joy and pride.  Also surviving is a stepson, Nick Johns.

Also preceding her in death were her brothers, Teddy and Eddie Upchurch, as well grandsons, Ethan Bowen and Joel Gaddis.

Betty’s life was filled with love and beauty, reflected in her passion for hummingbirds and her vibrant décor and landscape, where she nurtured beautiful flowers that mirrored her gentle and caring nature. She shared a close bond with her siblings, including her sister, Brenda Loy, and her brother, Reed Upchurch and his wife Shirley, as well as her sister-in-law, Carol Upchurch.

Betty was a long-time employee of Fruit of the Loom having been a quality control technician.  She continued many friendships made from her time at Fruit.

Betty will be remembered for her warm spirit, boundless love for her family, and the joy she found in life’s simple pleasures. Her memory will forever live in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

A celebration of Betty’s life will be held at Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home in Campbellsville with the family receiving visitors at 10 AM – 1 PM, Friday, November 22, 2024 and the funeral service to be at 1 PM.  You are invited to join family and friends as we gather to honor her legacy.
