* Update * Fatal Collision Investigation Currently Underway Resulting in Road Closure in Washington County County

11-03-10 10:25pm – The Kentucky State Police are currently investigating a 2 vehicle collision that occurred earlier this morning on KY 0055 south of Springfield near the Washington/Marion County line.  The collision has resulted in one confirmed fatality and the roadway will be closed until further notice.  Please encourage motorists to avoid this area until further notice.

11-03-10, 01:03pm – KY 0055 has been re-opened.

11-03-10, 01:51pm – 24-year-old Melanie A. Mattingly, of Springfield KY, was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of injuries sustained in the two vehicle collision.  Mattingly was operating a 2000 Buick 4 Door heading north on KY 0055.  Her vehicle was struck head-on when a southbound 2002 Ford Van operated by 31-year-old Marion T. Greathouse, crossed the centerline. Greathouse, from New Haven, KY, was transported to Springview Medical Center where he was treated and released.

KSP Investigates Murder in Russell County

A 17-year-old male juvenile has been charged with Murder in the shooting death of 29-year-old Felicia A. Eads of Russell Springs, Ky. On Tuesday, November 2nd,  Russell County Dispatch received a call of shots being fired at 80 Old Eli Road in Russell County at approximately 5:40 CST and KSP was contacted to respond.

Upon arrival at the scene, KSP units found the victim lying in the driveway with what appeared to be a fatal gunshot wound.  The subsequent investigation led to the arrest of the juvenile and 50-year-old Pamela Jane Bennett of Russell Springs who had apparently been involved, along with the juvenile, in an altercation with the victim.

Pamela Jane Bennett was charged with attempted Murder and was lodged in the Casey County Jail.  The juvenile was lodged in the Adair County Youth Development Center in Columbia.

KSP Detective B.J. Burton is investigating and was assisted at the scene by Russell County EMS, Russell County Sheriff’s Department and the Jamestown Fire Department.
