Future Campbellsville University wrestler wins British title; named to Team England

Campbellsville University wrestling has another national champion, only this time in Great Britain.

Brett Hawthorn, an incoming freshman at CU this fall, won the British Closed Championship in Glasgow, Scotland June 26, making him one of Great Britain’s newest senior national champion.

Hawthorn, coached by his father and former three-time world medalist Jimmy Hawthorn, earns a spot on Team England for the Commonwealth Games to be held Oct 3-14 in New Delhi, India.

Corene Mitchell of Campbellsville, daughter of the late Leslie Lyons and Floye Enyart Lyons, was born in Marion County, Kentucky, December 23, 1933.   She died at 9:55 A.M., Wednesday, July 7, 2010 in New Albany, Indiana.    Age:  76

Five Die Over July 4th Holiday Weekend

(FRANKFORT, KY) –  Preliminary statistics* indicate that five people died in five separate crashes on Kentucky’s roadways during the official July 4th Independence Day holiday period, which began at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, July 2 and ended at 11:59 p.m. on Monday, July 5.

Four of the fatalities involved motor vehicles and three of those were not wearing seat belts. The motor vehicle crashes occurred in Grayson, Hopkins, Bell and Todd counties.
