Allen grew up helping his father on the family farm. He developed his love of basketball in high school and acquired the nickname Spivey.  Allen was drafted into the Army and served for 2 years in Germany. While in Europe, he played basketball for his division and enjoyed trips to Paris and London. Upon his return to the states he settled in Nashville, Tennessee and married Elizabeth Anne Hall in 1960. Anne and he kept their boat in a slip at Emerald Isle Marina until Anne’s stroke in 2004.  Allen loved fishing on Green River Lake.  Allen held the record at one time for the largest muskie caught in Green River Lake. This fish adorned his office walls and the Taylor County Airport for many years. When not working or fishing, he loved watching the University of Kentucky basketball team play ball. Many a Saturday afternoon or evening was spent watching and yelling at the game with friends. Allen enjoyed traveling and playing bridge with Anne. Allen was extremely proud of his five grandchildren and enjoyed visiting with them whenever he could.  Allen was a member of Bethel First Presbyterian Church, Campbellsville Country Club, the American Legion, and Lions Club.  Later in life, he enjoyed spending the winters in Orange Beach, Alabama and eating oysters on the half shell.
