Lieutenant Colonel Retired Edith Virginia Knox

Lieutenant Colonel Retired Edith Virginia Knox of Campbellsville, daughter of the late John C. Knox and Alice Leona Moore Knox, was born in Springtown, Arkansas, August 13, 1927. She died at 3:39 P.M., Sunday, May 11, 2014, in Campbellsville.                       Age: 86

She professed faith in Christ and was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church in Kilgore, Texas.

She was also a member of the Campbellsville Rotary Club and The Army Nurse Corps Association.

She served her country honorably for some twenty-two years in the United States Army and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War and retiring with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. She was a registered nurse and served in Korea, Vietnam, Germany and many other venues.

She was awarded the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, and the Legion of Merit Medal.

After her retirement from the Army, she served as National Director of Blood Services for the American Red Cross. She traveled extensively around the world and visited every continent.

She is survived by one sister and brother-in-law, Margaret Ann and Rev. B. C. Gillispie of Campbellsville, a number of nieces and nephews and many friends.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Evelyn Keedy.

Betty Nelson of Campbellsville daughter of the late Cleaver Moore and Elizabeth McCarty Moore, was born in Marion County, Kentucky, March 13, 1944. She died at 4:02 P.M., Friday, May 9, 2014 in Louisville.     Age: 70

She professed faith in Christ and was a member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.

She was a retired employee of Metzmeier Nursing Home, she also was employed at Price’s Grocery for several years.

She is survived by two sons and one daughter: Ollie Jones, Brian Nelson and Patricia Lanham of Campbellsville; four grandchildren: Jessica Lynn Dean, Danielle Jones and Brandon Nelson of Campbellsville and Timmy Jones of Glasgow; four great-grandchildren: Allison Dean and Cameron Dean, Allie Jones, and Tyler Ray Jones; three brothers and three sisters: Junior Moore of Campbellsville, Paul Moore, Robert Moore and Sue Cox of Lebanon and Joyce Porter and Aileen Whitlock of Finley; several nieces and nephews, many other relatives and friends.

She was also preceded in death by one son, Danny Jones January 31, 2003 and one sister, Tresea Hardin.

Jean Wooley of Campbellsville, daughter of the late George R. Mattingly and Eliza Mattingly, was born in Marion County, Kentucky, November 16, 1937. She died at 6:00 A.M., Friday, May 2, 2014 in Campbellsville.     Age: 76

She professed faith in Christ and was a member of the Campbellsville Church of Christ.

She united in marriage to A. C. Wooley December 8, 1956.

Besides her husband, A. C. Wooley, she is survived by one son and one daughter: Terry Wooley and special friend of the family, Ina Ree Pickett of Campbellsville and Glena Jarboe and husband, David R. of Lexington; two grandchildren: Donna Mudd of Springfield and Stacey Jarboe of Lexington; three great-grandchildren:

Blake, Lexi and Lyla Jean; two brothers and three sisters: Wayne Mattingly of New Hope, Louis Mattingly and Lorene Hill of Lebanon, Darlene Blaul of Campbellsville and Bernice Totten of Bardstown; one sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Pat and Earl Bugg of Lebanon; several nieces and nephews, many other relatives and friends.

Margaret Abell Tucker

Martha Abell Tucker, age 89, of Campbellsville, was born in Lebanon, Ky., Aug. 27, 1924 to the late Hugh L. Abell and Edna Raley Abell. She died on Sunday, April 27, 2014 in Campbellsville.

She graduated from St. Augustine High School in Lebanon in 1943 and later, at Nazareth College in Louisville.

She was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Campbellsville where she had served as an usher and on various committees throughout the years, including the Legion of Mary.

Martha co-founded Tucker Diamonds & Gold in 1948, formerly called Young’s Jewelry Store and Tucker’s Jewelry Store. She was past president of Campbellsville Business and Professional Women’s Club (BPW), as well as president of Campbellsville American Legion Auxiliary and was a charter member of the Campbellsville Downtown Business Association.

She was a dedicated Bridge player and a long-standing golfer, winning the Woman’s Club Championship five times at Campbellsville Country Club.

She united in marriage to Thomas Cleaver Young in 1946, who preceded her in death in 1955.

She united in marriage to Morris V. Tucker on January 13, 1957. He preceded her in death December 21, 2008.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Douglas M. and Kathleen M. Tucker of Campbellsville; one step-son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Donald W. and Margaret W. Morford of Jacksonville, Fla.; two grandsons: Drew D. Tucker and Abel M. Tucker of Campbellsville; one brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Al and Joy Tucker of Union, Ky.; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was also preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters: Eugene Abell, Hugh Abell, Harold Abell, Mary George Abell, Susan Abell Ryan and Genevieve Abell Rawlings.
