Arless Russell Akin

Arless Russell Akin of Campbellsville, son of the late Robert Ellis Akin and Carrie Bale Akin, was born in Green County, Kentucky, May 11, 1923. He died at 5:56 A.M., Thursday, April 24, 2014 in Campbellsville.     Age:   90

He professed faith in Christ and is a member of the Southside Christian Church.

He was a welder and a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 183 in Lexington for some sixty years, a Taylor County Sheriff from 1974-1977 and a lifelong farmer and breeder of Hereford cattle and a member of the American Hereford Association.

He was on the first basketball team and the first baseball team at Taylor County High School. He was an avid amateur boxer and great all-around athlete.

He was a member of the Pitman Masonic Lodge #124 F & AM.

He united in marriage to Jane Coleman Allender February 14, 1958. She preceded him in death February 24, 2003.

He is survived by two sons and two daughters: Robert Akin and wife, Jewell of Greensburg, Melissa Mallard and husband, Elliott of Ocala, Florida, Merry Beth Gold and husband, Brad of Greenville, North Carolina and Rocky Akin and wife, Lori of Campbellsville; ten grandchildren: Niki Akin and Andrew Akin of Greensburg, Matthew Mallard, Jared Mallard and Elliott Mallard, II of Ocala, Florida, Carrie Gold, Evan Gold and Mason Gold of Greenville, North Carolina, Rachael Dobson and Zachary Akin of Campbellsville; three great-grandchildren: Brianna Dobson, Kaine Mallard and Grayson Mallard; two nieces: Connie Clem and husband, Fred of Elizabethtown and Donna Smith and husband, Dr. Roger Smith of Columbia and many other relatives and friends.

He was also preceded in death by two sisters: Geneva Moss September 10, 2012 and Virginia Caulk August 11, 2013.

Roger Dale Luttrell

Roger Dale Luttrell of Elk Horn, son of the late Harvey Roe Luttrell and Myrtle Fair Luttrell Wilson, was born in Casey County, Kentucky April 28, 1951. He died at 10:49 A.M., Monday, April 21, 2014 in Campbellsville.      Age: 62

He was an employee of Lebanon Oak Flooring in Lebanon for some thirty-eight years.

He is survived by one sister, Kathy June Luttrell of Cub Run; five nephews: Douglas Kilby of Georgetown, Greg Gaddis and Kevin Gaddis of Scottsburg, Indiana, Anthony Shively and Joseph Shively of Cub Run, Kentucky; several great-nieces and great-nephews and one great-great-nephew; and many other relatives and friends.

He was also preceded in death by one brother and five sisters: Gerald Dean Luttrell, Mary Luttrell, Betty Jean Kilby, Connie Sue Gaddis, Polly Luttrell and Cora Bell Luttrell and one nephew, Stephen Shively.

Pauline Tucker of Cincinnati, Ohio, formerly of Mannsville, daughter of the late Ben Shreve and Ada Brown Shreve, was born in Taylor County, Kentucky, June 5, 1915. She died at 9:50 P.M., Friday, April 18, 2014 in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Age: 98

She professed faith in Christ and was a member of the Mannsville United Methodist Church.

She united in marriage to Arvin B. Tucker March 31, 1936. He preceded her in death March 7, 1999.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews, many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by five sisters and one brother: Bessie Tucker, Beulah Land, Ora Montgomery, Mary Sapp, Seba Van Dyke and Manuel Shreve and twelve half-brothers and half-sisters.

Willard Nelson of Campbellsville, son of the late Charlie Thomas Nelson and Laurie French Nelson Grimes, was born in Marion County, Kentucky, April 16, 1935. He died at 10:30 P.M., Monday, April 14, 2014 in Greensburg.      Age: 78

He professed faith in Christ and was a member of Mt. Washington Baptist Church.

He was a retired construction employee.

He is survived by one son:  Brian Nelson of Campbellsville; two step-children:  Patricia Lanham and Ollie R. Jones of Campbellsville; one grandson, Brandon Nelson of Campbellsville; one brother and two sisters:  Woodrow Nelson and wife, Jean, Jean Bell and Mary Whitlock of Campbellsville; several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.

He was also preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters:  Howard Thomas Nelson, Omer Lee Nelson, Charles Leonard Nelson, Stella Underwood and Elizabeth Burchett and one step-son, Danny Joe Jones January 31, 2003.

Seymour “Buddy” Shaw

Seymour “Buddy” Shaw of Campbellsville, son of the late Seymour Shaw and Mabel Russell Shaw, was born in Taylor County, Kentucky, October 31, 1919. He died at 4:41 P.M., Saturday, April 12, 2014 in Campbellsville.     Age:    94          He professed faith in Christ and is a member of the First United Methodist Church.

He was a veteran of World War II having served his country honorably in the United States Army and was awarded the Bronze Star.

He was a retired employee of Tennessee Gas Transmissions as Pipeline Superintendent.

He is survived by two brothers and three sisters-in-law: Don and Gail Shaw and Liz Shaw of Campbellsville and Dick and Charlene Shaw of California; several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers: Ethel Buchanan, Sara “Tot” Buckler, Russell Shaw, and J. T. “Jimmy” Shaw.
