Peggy Mitchell Chewning

Posted by on Nov 24, 2023

Peggy Mitchell Chewning of Campbellsville, daughter of the late Robert Selby Mitchell and Catherine White Mitchell, was born March 10, 1942 in Taylor County, Kentucky.  She died at 8:24 A.M., Thursday, November 23, 2023 in Campbellsville.   Age:  81

She professed faith in Christ and was a member of Palestine Baptist Church.

Peggy retired from Fruit of the Loom to care for her grandchildren.

She united in marriage to Bobby Chewning October 19, 1973 and he preceded her in death June 17, 2023.

Peggy lived a very blessed and fulfilling life. In her younger years she was adventurous and loved to be outdoors. From the beach, to camping and boating, to vacations with friends, she was always ready for the next experience. As we all know, she never met a stranger and everyone knew when she was in a room. Whether it was a 5 minute conversation or her pulling a prank she always had something to say. She never left anyone in a room to feel ignored or unwanted.

Peggy was the matriarch of her family and took great pride in her role. She would say without a shadow of a doubt that her greatest accomplishment in life was being a wife, mom, and “granny.” Her passions were church, cooking, shopping, cleaning, home interior, going out for lunch, UK basketball, Nascar, and visiting with family and friends.

Peggy was truly an amazing woman who’s impact will be forever felt by her family. She was a selfless woman who’s passing left a void in the hearts of her loved ones. Her ability to provide, protect, support, encourage, show compassion, and love will be forever ingrained in everyone she knew.

Peggy is survived by one son and two daughters: Melissa Gordon, Tanya Franklin and husband, Scott, and Terry Chewning and wife, Kathy all of Campbellsville; six grandchildren: Tiffany Tedder and husband, Austin of Campbellsville, Trey Gordon of Nashville, Tennessee, Haley Goodwin and husband, Cody and Tyler Franklin of Bowling Green Kentucky, Jacob Chewning and wife, Jess and Jordan Chewning and wife, Stephanie of Campbellsville; eight great-grandchildren: Karlie Tedder, Kaeson Tedder, Krue Tedder Bentley Chewning, Graham Chewning, Myles Chewning, Nash Chewning and Briggs Chewning; several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.

Peggy was also preceded in death by two brothers and one sister: James Robert Mitchell, Joseph “Joe” Warren Mitchell, and Margaret Dowell Pepper.

Arthur Douglas Hogan

Posted by on Nov 20, 2023

Arthur Douglas Hogan of Campbellsville, son of the late Joe Coakley Hogan and Mozelle McDonald Hogan, was born October 24, 1952, in Taylor County Kentucky.  He died at 11:30 P.M., Saturday, November 18, 2023, in Campbellsville.   Age:  71

He professed faith in Christ and was of the Methodist faith.

Doug was a graduate of Kentucky Wesleyan College and he was a retired employee of Exxon Mobil.  Doug’s career allowed him to experience so many adventures for a little fellow who grew up in the country.  He was able to see firsthand the beauty, of not only the land on which he lived, but the waters that surrounded it.  Living and working on a ship hundreds of miles out in the sea developed Doug into much of the person he became.  He had a passion for that ship and for his job.

Doug lived a life of simple means.  To him, there was no need for bigger or better. All he needed was a landline or a visit to the back door, and he could talk for hours.  It didn’t matter if you were a relative, an old acquaintance, a new friend, or a stranger he just met, he wouldn’t hesitate to share a story or two.

Doug had a big heart that showed as he would often help others in need or tend to the many animals he would take in over the years.   As the youngest sibling, he carried many fond memories of his childhood and the community in which he grew up. Mannsville was always home for Doug, and his family was always in his heart and mind.

Doug is survived by a host of family and friends who will miss him dearly.

He was also preceded in death by one brother and three sisters:  Jim Hogan, Joyce Dearen, Anna  Mae Phillips and Tilda Lamb.

Frank Harden Wilcoxson

Posted by on Nov 16, 2023

Frank Harden Wilcoxson, 86, of Campbellsville, passed away on November 15, 2023 surrounded by family after a long and fruitful life.

Frank was born on January 29, 1937 to Thurman and Sadie Sharp Wilcoxson in Black Gnat, KY. Frank graduated from Taylor County High School just before marrying his high school sweetheart, Aileen Harden Wilcoxson at the age of 17.

Frank served in the Kentucky National Guard and was a faithful member and deacon at Beech Grove Baptist Church. He owned Wilcoxson Construction and enjoyed building barns for farms across the state. But his favorite work was tending the land, and he raised countless cows, donkeys, horses, pigs and—in the later years—fainting goats. He was a farmer in every sense of the word, cultivating life and growth in all sorts of places, from the fields to the Sunday school classroom.

He was also an avid storyteller, a thing those who had the privilege of sitting around his kitchen table know all too well. Never one to rush to the punchline, he told tales with long pauses and a dry wit that hooked his listeners from the start and kept them on the line for—in many cases—hours on end.

Most of all, Frank was an incredible husband, father and grandfather. He took immense delight in surrounding himself with his girls and their families. He spent his seven decades of marriage and more than sixty years of fatherhood showing those around him what it looked like to work joyfully and sacrifice without complaint for the good of those with whom he was entrusted. In that, he reflected the Christ who saved him and called him friend; the Christ in whose presence he now rests and rejoices.

Frank was predeceased by parents and two sisters, Linda Jane Wilcoxson and Peggy Gilpin and her husband, Bobby. He is survived by his three daughters: Debbie Wilcoxson; Rhonda Rose and her husband, Jamie; and Cindy Jaggers and her husband, David. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Josh Rose and his wife, Lauren; Morgan Cox and her husband, Taylor; Weston Dicken and his wife, Lauren; Madison Mahairas and her husband Anthony; Jason Jaggers and his wife, Candace; Tyler Jaggers and Chelsea Branham; and Presleigh Fadida and her husband Oshri. His great-grandchildren Lilly Claire, Oliver, Warren, Ellender, Canon, Kensley and Kip were his pride and joy. He loved nothing more than looking out the kitchen window to see them running down the hill for a visit.

Visitation will be held at Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home on Saturday, November 18 from 5:00-8:00 PM.

Funeral services will follow on Sunday at 2:00PM.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Beech Grove Baptist Church and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
