Joseph Larry Wright

Mr. Joseph Larry Wright of Campbellsville, KY formerly of Columbus, IN, passed peacefully from this life on Saturday, December 9, 2023, in the comfort of his home. Born in Chicago, IL on February 7, 1949, to Mary Edna (Burton) and Joseph Hiram Wright. The day after his birth, he went to stay with his grandparents in Columbia, KY. They were Eunice Ollie (Coffey) and Owen Elmer Burton whom he lived with the first five years of his life and their daughters. His aunts took him in as if he was their little brother taking him everywhere, even show and tell at school.

His grandmother instilled love, patience, caring, and compassion.

Mr. Wright was a Christian man.. attending church as often as he could.

After high school, Mr. Wright was drafted into the US Army, where he served two years. After returning home on May 29, 1971

he married the love of his life, Margaret Aleen Cummins.

Mr. Wright proceeds in death by his parents, grandparents, and aunt.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife Margaret Aleen (Cummins) Wright. Two children: Tiffany Michele (Shawn Michael) Wilson and Darren Wade (Crystal) Wright, 3 grandchildren Reilly, Miya, and Brady, one sister: Roxanne Smallwood and husband Darrell of Russell Springs, and two great aunts, and several cousins.

Mr. Wright’s ashes will be placed in the Garland Brook Cemetery in the mausoleum of his hometown of Columbus, Indiana at a later date.

Mary Alice Layer, 78

Mrs. Mary Alice Layer of Campbellsville, daughter of the late Chester and Nora (Vaughn) James, passed from this life on December 10, 2023 at the Campbellsville Nursing and Rehab Center after an extended illness. Born in Hiseville, KY on September 21, 1945, she was 78 years of age. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.

She leaves to mourn her passing:

Five children: Jody Thompson and husband Randy, Eric Jessie, Aubry Jessie, Rhonda Henderson, and Wally Jessie,

Two sisters: Leon Walkup and Joann Todd,

Twelve grandchildren,

And a host of other family members and friends.

The family chose cremation. All services were held privately.

Gary Edward Hunt, 69

Gary Edward Hunt of Campbellsville, KY, was born December 31, 1953, in Indianapolis, IN to the late Garland Edward Hunt and Marjorie Lee Bohanon Hunt, and departed this life Saturday, December 9, 2023, in Campbellsville. He was 69 years of age.

He professed faith in Christ and was an active member of the Mt. Roberts Baptist Church. He was a retired over-the-road truck driver having been an owner/operator for many years. He enjoyed all kinds of mechanical work and was a jack of all trades. He never met a stranger and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

He united in marriage to Marlena Thompson Hunt on January 16, 1983, who survives.

He is also survived by one son and two step-daughters: Michael Hunt and wife Laura of Greensburg, Cheryl Mings and husband Kevin of Campbellsville, and Rita Thompson and husband Chris of Elizabethtown.

Also, six grandchildren: Lilly Bennett, Victoria Bennett, Jaycee Mings, Sydney Mings, Ethan Mings, and Chayse Thompson. One great–grandson: Ezra Dodson.

Two brothers: Doug Hunt and wife Tammy of Campbellsville, and Kevin Hunt and wife Christy of Burkesville along with a host of other relatives and friends.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister: Pam Bright.

The funeral service for Gary Edward Hunt will be at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, December 13, 2023, at the L.R. Petty Funeral Home Chapel, 1765 New Columbia Rd in Campbellsville with burial to follow in the Brookside Cemetery.

Bro. John Stilts will officiate.

The family requests visitation from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at the L.R. Petty Funeral Home.

Memorials are suggested to be donations to the Funeral Expense Fund and may be made at the funeral home.

Mrs. Beverley Anne (Coles) Barnes of Campbellsville, formerly of Indianapolis, IN, passed peacefully from this life on Friday, December 8, 2023 in the comfort of her home. Born in Warrington, England on July 28, 1958, she was 65 years, 4 months, and 10 days of age. She was of the Christian faith. Mrs. Barnes (or, “Bev” or “Nana”, depending on your relationship), was a cherished mother and grandmother, renowned for her thoughtfulness and caring attentiveness towards her family. She was a woman of strength, facing life’s difficulties with dignity and humor, and perhaps a bit of occasional mischievousness.

She was the widow of Mr. Donald Lee Barnes, Jr. Mrs. Barnes was also preceded in death by a daughter, Sam Coles, and a brother, Doug Coles.

She leaves to cherish her memory:

Five children: Donald Lee Barnes, III and companion Tracie Hillyer, Christopher Lee barnes and wife Crystal, and Tina Barnes, all of Indianapolis, IN, Angela Sanford and husband Kevin of Campbellsville, and Jeremy Biebesheimer of Colorado,

Four brothers: Robert Coles, Pete Coles, Scott Coles, and Jimmy Coles,

Sixteen grandchildren: Donnie Barnes, IV, Haley Leann Barnes, Jazmine Denny, Robert Denny, Jr., Elijah Davis, Elexia Davis, Jordin Sidwell, Jaydin Sidwell, Madysin Bronewell, Malachi Sanford, Harlee Barnes, Christian Barnes, and Kali Medjeski,

A great-grandchild: Jojo Owens,

A close friend: Bea,

And a host of other extended family members and friends.

Mrs. Barnes’ ashes will be spread beside her Nana in her hometown of Warrington, England at a later date.

Shawn Patrick Joines, 50

Shawn Patrick Joines, of Louisville, formerly of Casey County, KY, was born January 17, 1973 in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late Kenneth and Roxie (Singleton) Joines and departed this life on Tuesday, December 5, 2023 in Louisville. He was 50 years of age.

He was a carpenter and was of the Baptist Faith.

Shawn Pat as he was commonly called, enjoyed football, especially fantasy football and basketball.

Survivors include his lovely children: Ashley Spivey and husband Jerome, Andrew, Alex and Amber Joines and will be lovingly missed by his brothers and sisters: Jeffrey Joines, Sharron Burnette, Saundra Joines and Steven Joines.

Also survived by four grandchildren: Issac, Atticus, Lucas and Adalyn; two step-grandchildren: Matthew and Sierra and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother and sister: Larry Joines and Karen Riggs.

A memorial service will be held at a later time.

He will be laid to rest in the Creston Cemetery in Casey County.

Kevin Phillips

Kevin Phillips of Campbellsville, son of Pat Kearnes Phillips and the late Randall G. Phillips, was born September 12, 1975 in Taylor County, Kentucky.  He died at 8:55 A.M., Thursday, December 7, 2023 in Campbellsville.   Age:  48

He professed faith in Christ.

Kevin was a longtime employee of Toyotomi America in Springfield and had previously owned his own cleaning business, “Kevin’s Industrial Cleaning Services” for more than fifteen years. He was a hard working and determined man who was admired for his bravery and strength. Even after the loss of his arm, he continued to drive his stick-shift Jeep.  He enjoyed all UK sports and was a very supportive and proud soccer dad and band dad for his sons.

He married his high school sweetheart, Jamie Goode, on June 27, 1998.

Besides his wife, Jamie Phillips of Campbellsville, Kevin is survived by two sons:

Mason Phillips and Aidan Phillips of Campbellsville; his mother, Pat Phillips of Campbellsville; one sister, Tracy Gibson and husband, Chip of Kansas City, Missouri; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Jeanie and Stevie Goode of Campbellsville; eight nieces and nephews; eleven great-nieces and great-nephews; one brother-in-law and two sisters-in-law:  Eugene Goode, Debbie Puyear and Rita McStoots and husband, Shane of Campbellsville and several other relatives and many friends.

Rosemary Ford Mardis

Rosemary Ford Mardis of Campbellsville, daughter of the late Coakley Ford and Flora Lewis Ford, was born June 21, 1930 in Taylor County, Kentucky.  She died at 9:35 A.M., Wednesday, December 6, 2023 in Campbellsville.    Age:  93

She professed faith in Christ and was a member of Robinson Creek Baptist Church. Rosemary loved going to church and reading her Bible.  She also enjoyed spending time with family and cooking.

Rosemary was a retired department manager with Wal Mart.

She united in marriage to Robert “Burr” Mardis January 31, 1948 and he preceded her in death June 15, 2017.

Rosemary is survived by one son and one daughter:  Ron Mardis and wife, Melissa and Gayle Phillips and husband, Charles of Campbellsville; five grandchildren:  Matthew Mardis and wife, Becky, Nicole Driver and husband, Bob, Will Phillips and wife, Tana, Aaron Campbell and wife, Kristin and Kimberly Poff; nineteen great-grandchildren; two brothers and one sister:  Leonard “Starchy” Ford and wife, Sue, Deanie Price of Mt. Washington and Donnie Ford and wife, Juanita of Campbellsville; one sister-in-law, Sharon Ford of Campbellsville; several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.

Rosemary was also preceded in death by one brother and one sister:  Raymond Ford and Mardell Benningfield.

Larry Gadberry

Larry Gadberry of Campbellsville, son of the late Arlin Gadberry and Ada Robertson Gadberry, was born December 27, 1941 in Decatur, Illinois.  He died at 2:35 P.M., Monday, December 4, 2023 in Campbellsville.    Age:  81

He professed faith in Christ and was a member of Lowell Avenue Baptist Church.

Larry served his country honorably in the United States Army and was decorated with the Purple Heart award for his sacrifices in the Vietnam War.

He was a former co-owner with his wife, Margaret, of Lee’s Famous Recipe in Greensburg for twenty two years. He was also a former employee at Fruit of the Loom for over twenty years, as well as Chapel’s Dairy.

Larry was a stock car driver who enjoyed racing, as well as playing cornhole and horseshoe, fishing, and watching the Cincinnati Reds and Kentucky basketball.

He united in marriage to Margaret Newton February 20, 1970.

Besides his wife, Margaret Gadberry of Campbellsville, Larry is survived by one daughter and two sons: Hollie Westbrook and husband, Rob of Campbellsville; Van Gadberry and wife, Cabrina of Lebanon, and Cory Gadberry and wife, Jacki of Tennessee; eight grandchildren: Addie Westbrook, Reece Westbrook, Haleigh Gadberry, Hannah Gadberry, Gwennie Wuertenberg, Analeigh Gadberry, Mason Gadberry, and Mekenzie Gadberry; several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.

Larry was also preceded in death by one brother and two sisters: J.D. Gadberry, Virginia Reed, and Judy Elam.

Dolores Faye Wicker of Campbellsville, KY, was born October 26, 1942, in Bradfordsville, KY, to the late K.C. Abell and Velma Irene King Abell, and departed this life Saturday, December 2, 2023, at her residence. She was 81 years of age.

She was of the Christian Faith and loved reading, flowers, and animals, and before becoming disabled she liked to fish.

She is survived by one son and one daughter: Larry Davis Wicker and wife Bonnie Faye Wicker, and Gina Lynn Wicker Kirkland all of Campbellsville.

Four grandchildren: Cody Wicker and wife Terri Ann, Logan Wicker and wife Mylea all of Campbellsville, Dawlton Kirkland, and Donovan Kirkland and fiancé Hannah both of Lebanon. Five great-grandchildren: Carmen, Heidi, Wyatt, Whitney, and Wes, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Also, a dear special friend: B.J. Thomas, and her two beloved cats, Shadow and Teka.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, December 5, 2023, at 7:30 P.M. at the L.R. Petty Funeral Home Chapel  1765 New Columbia Road Campbellsville.

Roger Dale Warren, 65

Roger Dale Warren of Campbellsville, KY, was born November 22, 1958, in Louisville, to the late Herman Warren and Mary Lou Turner Warren, and departed this life Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at the Campbellsville Nursing and Rehab. He was 65 years of age.

He was a former employee of KY Trailer, Cox Interior, and was a farmer. He was of the Baptist Faith. He enjoyed collecting model cars, drawing, spending time with friends, and enjoyed lawn mowing.

He united in marriage to Sharon Webb Warren who preceded him in death.

He is survived by four sisters: Linda Riley and husband Steve of Louisville, Brenda Roberts and husband Keith of Louisville, Gayle Cox and husband Stevie of Campbellsville, and Carolyn Thompson and husband Billy of Campbellsville.

Also a special sister-in-law, Sissy Bennett, and husband Eugene of Campbellsville

Besides his parents and wife, He was preceded in death by one brother: Randall Leon Warren, and his stepmother: Flossie Warren.

There will be a funeral service to honor the life of Roger Dale Warren on Sunday, December 3, 2023, at 2 P.M. EST at the L.R. Petty Funeral Home Chapel 1765 New Columbia Rd. in Campbellsville.
