Matt Burress of Elk Horn, son of Toni Miller Burress and the late Rodney Burress, was born January 10, 1990 in Taylor County, Kentucky. He died at 6:38 A.M., Wednesday, October 16, 2019 in Elk Horn. Age: 29
He professed faith in Christ and attended of Feathersburg Church of God.
He was an employee of Murakami Manufacturing in Campbellsville.
Matt was an avid hunter, enjoyed farming with his father and brother and was a UK Wildcat fan. His children meant the world to him and he was very proud of them, as both their father and their coach.
Matt married the love of his life, Megan Parrish, on September 8, 2018.
Besides his wife, Megan Burress, he is survived by two sons and one daughter: Andrew Blake Burress, Mason Alexander Burress and Adalynn Grace Burress; his mother, Toni Burress; one brother, Adam Burress and wife, Amanda; one nephew, Peyton Lee Burress, all of Elk Horn; his maternal grandmother, Rose Miller of Liberty; his paternal grandparents, Bobby Lee and Dorothy Jean Burress of Elk Horn; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Chris and Regina Parrish of Campbellsville; one brother-in-law, Matt Parrish and wife, Salena; one niece, Keylee Parrish, all of Campbellsville; aunts and uncles: Tommy Miller of Liberty, Debbie Miller of Shelbyville and Allen and Kecia Burress of Elk Horn and many other relatives and friends.
Matt was also preceded in death by a daughter, Maitlynn Leigh Burress February 21, 2012.

Phillip “Phil” Davis, 67

Mr. Phillip Earl “Phil” Davis of Campbellsville was born on November 18, 1951 in Richmond, Indiana to the late Earl D and Jeanette A. (Stevens) Davis. He departed this life on Monday, October 14, 2019 in Indianapolis as the result of an illness. He was 67 years, 10 months, and 26 days of age. He had made a profession of faith in Christ and was of the Christian faith. Mr. Davis had retired from the Alcatel-Lucent Company after 30 years of service as an installer and test engineer of telecommunication equipment.

Mr. Davis was a veteran of the United States Air Force, and had served his country honorably during the Vietnam War era. He was fiercely proud of his country and the men and women that defend her. He was a member of the Patriot Guard Riders, the American Legion Post 82, and the Legion Guard Riders. After receiving an honorable discharge, he continued to support his fellow brothers and sisters in arms. He held several positions in the American Legion, most recently as an Alternate National Executive Committeeman. In what little free time he could muster, he enjoyed fishing, golfing, bowling, or just a quiet ride on his motorbike.

He leaves to mourn his passing:

Two children: Nicole Dixon and husband Nick, and Michael P. Davis and wife Rebecca, all of Campbellsville,

A sister: Rose Marie Jensen and husband Karl of Richmond, Indiana,

Five grandchildren: Casey Hardin, Hayden Davis, Westin Dudgeon, Kennon Davis, and Keegan Davis,

A special niece: Renae Brown and husband Steve of California,

And a host of other family and friends.

There will be a funeral service to honor the life of Mr. Davis on Friday, October 18, 2019 at 1:00 PM in the chapel of the L.R. Petty Funeral Home, 1765 New Columbia Rd, Campbellsville, KY. Bro. Steve Orr will be officiating. Entombment will follow in the Campbellsville Memorial Gardens Mausoleum..

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, Oct. 18, after 10:00 AM until time for the service.

Doyle Sluder, 87

Mr. Doyle Austin Sluder of Campbellsville passed from this life on Wednesday, October 16, 2019 at the Taylor Regional Hospital. Born on March 15, 1932 to the late Dewey and Dora Sluder, he was 87 years, 7 months, and 1 day of age. Mr. Sluder had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the First Church of God. A larger-than-life grandfather, he loved spending time with his family above all else. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were especially close to his heart, and he cherished being able to share a Sunday afternoon watching a NASCAR race with them. He was a former employee of the Carnation Milk Company and a retiree of Fruit of the Loom.

He leaves to mourn his passing:

Two grandchildren: James Scott Russell and wife Mashonda, and Kristi Lynn Phillips and husband Dustin, all of Campbellsville,

Five siblings: Imogene Compton of Columbus, Indiana, Coy Sluder and wife Mary of Campbellsville, William “Bill” Sluder of Campbellsville, Audrey Eastridge of Campbellsville, and Wayne Sluder of Hardford City, Indiana,

Three great-grandchildren: Shandin Blair Russell of Somerset, Kayden Robert Phillips of Campbellsville, and Kaylee Mae Phillips of Campbellsville,

A sister-in-law: Sue Sluder of Campbellsville,

And a host of other family and friends.

He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Sherry Ann Brady, and four siblings, Elmer Sluder, Winfrey Sluder, Edith Ferguson, and Ray Sluder.

There will be a funeral service to honor the life of Mr. Sluder on Sunday, October 20, 2019 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of the L.R. Petty Funeral Home, 1765 New Columbia Rd, Campbellsville, KY. Bro. Evan Tedder will be officiating. Burial will follow in the Campbellsville Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Sharon Lawson, 62

Mrs. Sharon Kay Lawson of Campbellsville, daughter of Margie Edwards and the late Robert Farmer, Sr., was born on October 4, 1957 in Taylor County. She was surrounded by her family when she entered into rest on Saturday, October 12, 2019 in Louisville at the Jewish Hospital, being 62 years and 8 days of age. She had made a profession of faith in Christ and was of the Christian faith. Mrs. Lawson was an employee of Serco, where she arranged the travel itineraries for customers of US Airways. She loved her family; her four grandchildren were the ultimate pride and joy in her life. Her caring heart, excellent cooking, and entertaining spirit will be fondly remembered for generations.

She leaves to cherish her memory:

Clemmie Cox, Jr, 75

Mr. Clemmie Cox, Jr., of Campbellsville, son of the late Ethil (Bland) and Clemmie Cox, Sr. passed from this life on Sunday, October 13, 2019 in Lexington at the Baptist Health Center. Born on October 25, 1943, he was 75 years, 11 months, and 18 days of age. Mr. Cox had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of Woodlawn Christian Church. He had served his God many years as a deacon both at Woodlawn Christian Church and Mannsville Christian Church, and he served his country honorably in the Army National Guard. He retired as a mechanic from Fruit of the Loom after 30 years on the job and worked for Mid South Drilling in Columbia for 15 years. He loved working around the house making repairs both large and small, and also building home and Offering Modular and Mobile Homes on your land. Besides his church life, though, Mr. Cox had one priority – his family. He spent countless hours both watching and playing sports with his children, and regaled any willing ear with stories of their exploits.

There will be a funeral service to honor the life of Mr. Cox on Thursday, October 17, 2019 at 11:00 AM in the chapel of the Woodlawn Christian Church, 831 W Main St, Campbellsville, KY. Bro. Fella Wilson will be officiating. Entombment will follow in the Campbellsville Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, with full military honors being accorded him by the Marion County Veterans Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends at the church on Wednesday, October 16, from 5:00-8:00 PM.

Rev. Ben Spencer

Rev. Ben Spencer of Campbellsville, son of the late James Spencer and Myrtle Burnett Spencer, was born January 13, 1927 in Wolfe County, Kentucky. He died at 12:00 P.M., Thursday, October 10, 2019 in Campbellsville. Age: 92

He was a faithful servant of Christ and devoted minister for over sixty-three years. He, along with others built the East Campbellsville Church of God and its campground. He was the pastor at East Campbellsville Church of God for forty plus years and was pastor emeritus. He was involved in mission work in Haiti and Jamaica and raised money for the Fe India Children’s Mission. He was an evangelist and had a radio ministry for twenty-five years. He was a talented musician, songwriter, writing many soul winning songs and wood craftsman.
He loved his family and his church family. He, without a doubt led hundreds if not thousands to Christ. Only heaven will show the impact of his life and ministry.

Bro. Spencer was a veteran of World War II having served his country honorably in the United States Army and United States Air Force and received the World War II Victory Ribbon and the Army Occupational Medal.
He united in marriage to Shirley Saunders April 19, 1956.
Besides his wife, Shirley Spencer of Campbellsville, he is survived by three sons and five daughters: Marty Spencer and wife, Dana, Brian Spencer and wife, Michelle and Tonya Hagan and husband, Greg of Campbellsville, Djuana Nolley and husband, Greg of Elk Horn, Dwayne Spencer and wife, Tammy of Cookeville, Tennessee, Lori Perez and husband, Ramiro of Elizabethton, Tennessee, Rhonda Nunez and husband, Luis of Homestead, Florida and Barbara Jean Swenson and husband, Pete of Lebanon, Missouri; one daughter-in-law, Denise Spencer of Campbellsville; thirty-seven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; one sister, Viola Little of Wolfe County, Kentucky; several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends, including his family at East Campbellsville Church of God.
He was also preceded in death by two sons, Bro. Robbie Spencer and Stephen Spencer; a grandson, Dalin Spencer and several brothers and sisters.
