Helen Melson of Matthew Street, Campbellsville, daughter of the late Chester Tweedy and Virgie Furkin Tweedy, was born in Cumberland County, Kentucky September 17, 1914. She died at 11:45 A.M., Friday, September 19, 2003, in Campbellsville. Age: 89 She professed faith in Christ and was a member of the St. Mark United Methodist Church.She united in marriage to E. H. Melson in 1936. Besides her husband E. H. Melson of Matthew Street, Campbellsville, she is survived by two sisters: Christine Burress of Ann Arbor, Michigan and Lottie Burchett of Columbia; many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Archie Sue Melson in infancy, and three brothers, Marvin Tweedy, Tom Paul Tweedy and James Elford Tweedy. She was a former employee of Southern Gravure, Reynolds Metal Company and the Bibleland Travel Agency. She was the former financial secretary for her church, Walnut Street Baptist Church, for many years. She is survived by two sisters: Lucille Kirtley of Elizabethtown and Louise Raley of Campbellsville; her nieces: Betty Sammons, Paula Wise, Vicki Kelly, Susan Tindall, Deborah Packard and Lois Ball; her nephews: Jerry Benningfield and Steven Kirtley; many other relatives and friends. Rev. John W. Farmer of Bordeaux Drive, Lexington, son of the late Alvin Farmer and Nettie Wise Farmer was born in Taylor County, Kentucky, January 20, 1925. He died at 8:57 P.M., Tuesday, September 16, 2003, in Lexington. Age: 78 He professed faith in Christ and was a member of the Palestine Baptist Church. He was a veteran of World War II, having served his country in the United States Army and received the following decorations and citations: Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, Victory Medal, Meritorious Unit Award, Army of Occupation Medal, Japan Army Commendation Ribbon, Good Conduct Ribbon and Two Overseas Service Bars. Rev. Farmer was ordained to the Gospel Ministry December 8, 1949. His pastorates included Pikes Ridge Baptist Church and Walnut Hill Baptist Church, both in Taylor County, Kentucky; Menlo Baptist Church in Menlo, Georgia; Buice Memorial Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia; Little Union Baptist Church in Fairfield, Kentucky; First Baptist Church in Irvine, Kentucky; First Baptist Church in Carrollton, Kentucky and Mt. Gilboa Baptist Church in Campbellsville, Ky. Rev. Farmer was a graduate of Campbellsville University, Campbellsville, Kentucky; Georgetown College, Georgetown, Kentucky and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, Kentucky. He held a Master of Divinity Degree from Southern Seminary. He united in marriage to Bernice Jarboe December 23, 1944.
