Campbellsville Fire Chief retires after 38 years of service

After 38 years of service with the Campbellsville Fire Department, Chief Johnson has announced his intent to retire, according to a statement from the Office of Mayor Tony Young.

Chief Johnson began his career at the Campbellsville Fire Department as a volunteer and was progressively promoted throughout his tenure. “He has served as Chief of the Campbellsville Fire Department for 18 years,” Mayor Young said, “and has provided excellent leadership throughout his career.”

During his tenure, Johnson has played a significant role in bringing hundreds of thousands of dollars in grant funding to the City which enhanced the capabilities of the department. “He has enjoyed a long and productive career that he can be proud of and his many contributions as Chief of the Campbellsville Fire Department are so appreciated.” Mayor Young added.

Young went on to say “Chief Johnson has certainly demonstrated a lot of vision and initiative in working for the development of a first class Fire and Rescue department.” Johnson was instrumental in the successful merger of rescue services with the fire department during the past year. “I have enjoyed working with him and the City is grateful for his dedication for which he will be truly missed,” Mayor Young concluded.

Chief Johnson stated, “God has truly blessed me by allowing me to serve this wonderful community, throughout my 18 years as chief, our department has accomplish all of our goals in our ten year plan and most in the twenty year plan. I look forward to serving in other ways in the future.”

Chief Johnson will continue his duties as chief until a replacement is found and will assist through the initial transition process.

Patricia Midkiff

Patricia Midkiff of Campbellsville, daughter of the late Benjamin Harrison McQuay and Estella Bailey McQuay, was born in Keokuk, Iowa, January 3, 1930.  She died at 5:00 P.M., Tuesday, July 10, 2012, in Campbellsville.    Age: 82

In 1952 she graduated from the Deaconess Nursing School, and then retired after some 40 years of service as a Registered Nurse with the Deaconess Hospital.

She united in marriage to Thomas Clinton Midkiff.  He preceded her in death January 15, 1988.   

She is survived by one daughter and one son:  Melanie Denzer and husband, William and Thomas Michael Midkiff of Elkhorn; two grandsons:  Chad Stockfleth and Zachary Denzer of Louisville; one niece Shirley Lane of Eldorado, Illinois; and many other relatives and friends.

She was also preceded in death by one brother and one sister: Robert McQuay and Juanita Logan.

Veachel Antle

Veachel Antle of Campbellsville, son of the late Marvin Antle and Cordie Pike Antle, was born in Taylor County, Kentucky, April 23, 1930. He died at
1:02 P.M., Tuesday, July 10, 2012, in Campbellsville. Age: 82
He professed faith in Christ and was a member of Campbellsville Baptist Church
He served his country honorably in the United States Army and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict.
He was a Salesman and Supervisor for Kerns Bakery for some forty-two years and loved farming.
He united in marriage to Emilie Dowell July 19, 1952.
Besides his wife Emilie Antle, he is survived by two sons and three daughters: Barry Antle and wife, Becky, Lyndi Tarter and husband, Mike, Rita Antle, Stephen Antle and LeDean Antle all of Campbellsville; seven grandchildren: Gary Lynn Beard, Jeff Antle and wife, Christen, Justin Durrett, Kristen Willis, Greg Long and wife Amanda, Ann Morgan Tarter and Chris Tarter and wife, Jenna; five great-grandchildren: Braylon Beard, Evan Long, Ethan Long, Miles Tarter and Ian Tarter; several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.
He was also preceded in death by one son: Gregory Ray Antle at 6 years of age; four sisters and two brothers: Marie DeSpain, Arvina Taylor, Zillah Van Cleave, Christine Fowler, Arthur Antle and Harvey Antle.
