Gwendolyn “Nunu” Cox

Gwendolyn “Nunu” Cox, 58, of Campbellsville, Kentucky, daughter of William Hitch and the late Gwenda Morris Hitch was born February 4th, 1966, in Avon Park, Florida, and departed this life on February 8th, 2024 in Louisville.

 

Nunu enjoyed walking with friends. She loved going to Disney with her family and friends. She enjoyed listening to preachers on TV. Nunu professed faith in Christ and was of the Pentecostal faith.

 

Besides her step-dad, Nunu is survived by:

Two sons: Matthew Cox and Christian Cox, both of Campbellsville

Two grandchildren: Cadynce Cox and Bentley Cox, both of Campbellsville

Two sisters: Judy Walden and Tracy Walden, both of Campbellsville

A special friend of the family, Jeremy Lile of Campbellsville

A host of other relatives and friends

 

Nunu was preceded in death by:

One son, Darlis Cox in 1988

One sister and one brother: Rhonda Skaggs in 1998 and Edward Shearer in 2016

One niece, Nichole Skaggs in 2017

 

VISITATION: Thursday, February 15th, 2024 from 5:00 pm- 8:00 pm at Auberry Funeral Home in downtown Campbellsville.

 

FUNERAL: Friday, February 16th, 2024 at 11:00 am at Auberry Funeral Home in downtown Campbellsville.

 

The family has requested expressions of sympathy may be in the form of donations to funeral expenses and may be made at the funeral home.

Lyla Wayne Thurman

Lyla Wayne Thurman of Campbellsville, daughter of the late Thomas Alfred Wayne and Mary Katherine Lanham Wayne, was born May 27, 1940 in Marion County Kentucky.  She died at 3:30 P.M., Wednesday, February 7, 2024 in Campbellsville.    Age:  83

She professed faith in Christ and was a member of Pitman Valley Baptist Church and was in the Women of Ruth Group.

Lyla was a retired bookkeeper and assistant director of the Mercer County Senior Citizens, Inc.

She loved UK football, UK basketball and Nascar.  Lyla also enjoyed crocheting, knitting and cross stitching.

She united in marriage to Joe Thurman October 27, 1962 and he preceded her in death December 23, 2012.

Lyla is survived by one brother, Thomas “Buggy” Wayne and wife, Betty of Campbellsville; two nieces:  April Higdon and husband, Jr. and Nikki Edwards and husband, Derek; one nephew, A.J. Wayne and wife, Jessica; three great-nieces:  Cailee Higdon, Maci Higdon and Wonder Edwards; four great-nephews:  Trace Higdon, Kade Wayne, Briggs Wayne and Wilder Edwards; several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.

Lyla was also preceded in death by a son, Samuel Wayne Thurman May 17, 2020.

Phillip Barker, 71

Mr. Phillip James Barker of Campbellsville passed from this life on Wednesday, February 7, 2024 at the Baptist Health Hospital in Louisville following an extended illness. Born in Chicago, Illinois on February 5, 1953, he was 71 years of age. He was of the Catholic faith, and a former factory worker. He will long be remembered as a family man, always caring for his kids and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia (Kozak) Barker, his parents, Henry and Eileen Barker, a son, Brian Harvey, and two siblings, Jean Shimek and Michael Barker.

He leaves to cherish his memory:

Eight children: James Barker, Jimy Wood, Johnny Wood and wife Cathy, Frankie Harvey, Barbara Bomia, Martha Harvey and companion Kevin Hall, Marie Harvey, and Sherry Burgess and husband Phillip,

And a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and several other family members and friends.

At the request of Mr. Barker, cremation will be accorded him by the L.R. Petty Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Campbellsville. There was no public visitation.
