They were two of the first high school programs to break in the new synthetic turf at Finley Stadium this summer, now Campbellsville High School and Taylor County High School will be the first two teams to play a high school game on the newly renovated surface at Campbellsville University. The cross-town rivals will meet in the annual “Battle of the Birds” Friday, Sept. 3 at 7:30 p.m.

“We have invited Taylor County and Campbellsville to play the “Battle of the Birds” at Finley Stadium the next two years. Tim Davis (Campbellsville AD) and Jeff Gumm (Taylor County AD) are great to work with, and we look forward to hosting their teams,” said Rusty Hollingsworth, CU athletic director.

Both teams enter the game with an 0-2 record, as Campbellsville looks to keep its bragging rights alive. The Eagles won the 2009 meeting at Taylor County High School, 30-21.

This year’s Campbellsville Tiger team includes three players who played in the 2009 Battle of the Birds: former Taylor County quarterback Lance Turpin, former TCHS offensive lineman Keenan Bell and former Campbellsville High stand out Thomas Downs.
