Elna Kathleen Thompson

Mrs. Elna Kathleen Thompson of Columbia, daughter of the late James Oliver and Annie Cecil (Bault) Long, was born in Adair County on November 5, 1936. She departed this life on Monday, December 22, 2025 at her home, having attained the age of 89 years, 1 month, and 17 days. She was the devoted wife to Mr. William Russell Thompson, who precedes her in death. Mrs. Thompson had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of Yuma Baptist Church. She will be long remembered for her kind heart, her love for her cats, and the simple, heartfelt joy she got from shopping at Walmart.

She leaves to carry her legacy:

Six children: Gary Long and wife Kena of Lebanon, Donna Mattingly of Springfield, and Glenda Phillips and husband Rod, Brad Thompson, Pam Quinn and husband Todd, and Randall Thompson and fiance Terissa Graham, all of Campbellsville,

Four stepdaughters: Janet Clark and husband David of Jamestown, Regina Key and companion Leo Abner of Columbia, Zerelda Ervin of Glasgow, and Ramona Dial and husband Kenneth of Columbia,

Two siblings: Morgan Long of Columbia and Elaine Clark of Leitchfield,

Fourteen grandchildren,

Twenty-three great-grandchildren,

Four great-great grandchildren,

And a host of other family members and friends.

Besides her parents and her husband, Mrs. Thompson was also preceded in death by a grandchild, and six siblings: Elby Long, Felix Long, Earl Long, Everett Long, Lucille Young, and Alma Green.

There will be a funeral service to honor the life of Mrs. Thompson on Saturday, December 27, 2025 at 11:00 AM EST (10:00 AM CST) in the chapel of the L.R. Petty Funeral Home, 1765 New Columbia Rd, Campbellsville. Bro Jerry Smith and Bro. Garry Bault will officiate. She will laid to rest in the Absher Cemetery in Adair County. Gary M. Long, Adam Long, Nathan Long, Jarrett Mattingly, Dylan Quinn, and Eric Quinn will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, Dec. 26, from 5:00-8:00 PM EST (4:00-7:00 PM CST).

In lieu of flowers, please consider memorials in the form of donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Those can be made in person at the funeral home.

George Richard Miller

Mr. George Richard Miller, age 87, passed from this life on Tuesday, December 16, 2025 at his home in Campbellsville. He was born in Louisville on October 7, 1938 to the late Albert Richard and Carolyn Agnes (Henle) Miller. He was a retired veteran, having served his country faithfully over 33 years as a mechanic in the United States Air Force, and was of the Catholic faith.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Roberta (Toy) Miller in 2015, and a daughter, Kelly Sue Gaddie, in 2007.

He leaves to mourn his passing:

A son: Joseph “Mike” Miller and wife Wanda of Campbellsville,

Three siblings: Carol Ann Miller, Bob Miller, and Terry Miller,

Four grandchildren,

Two great-grandchildren,

A sister-in-law, Linda, and a several other extended family members and friends.

Mr. Miller had requested cremation. Those services were conducted by L.R. Petty Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Campbellsville.

Ms. Vickie Arlene Russell-Smith of Campbellsville was born at the Rosary Hospital in Taylor County on August 27, 1955 to Norma Laverne (Goode) Russell and the late Wallace Clement Russell. She departed this life on Friday, December 19, 2025 at the Village of Lebanon Care Center having attained the age of 70 years, 3 months, and 22 days of age. She had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of Green River Memorial Baptist Church. She was a former employee of Fruit of the Loom, a board member of Habitat for Humanity, and enjoyed doing genealogy research and volunteering or fundraising for various nonprofit groups.

She leaves to cherish her memory:

Her mother: Laverne Russell of Campbellsville,

A sister: Rita Ford,

A nephew: Kevin A. Ford,

A niece: Amanda Vannice,

A great nephew: Jacob Stewart,

Two great nieces: Tiffany Hord and Tori Hardin,

And several other extended family members and friends.

There will be a funeral service to honor the life of Ms. Smith on Friday, December 26, 2025 at 1:00 PM in the chapel of the L.R. Petty Funeral Home, 1765 New Columbia Rd, Campbellsville. Burial will follow in the Green River Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, December 26, from 11:00 AM until time for the service.
