Norma Jean Cox Johnson

Norma Jean Cox Johnson of Campbellsville, daughter of the late Coakley Cox and Nannie Clara White Cox Wood was born October 21, 1934 in Taylor County, Kentucky.  She died at 6:17 A.M., Tuesday, June 28, 2022 in Campbellsville.   Age:  87

 

She professed faith and was a member of First Cumberland Presbyterian.

Norma Jean was a former employee of General Telephone, clerk at Long John Silver, Parks Belk, and was also a part owner of World Wide Fabric.

Norma was known as a very loving, hard workin, devoted Christian lady who never met a stranger. She was also a good cook and loved her favorite band, The Oak Ridge Boys.

She united in marriage to David Johnson December 5, 1952.

Besides her husband, David Johnson of Campbellsville, Norma Jean is survived by

one son and one daughter: Cindy Johnson Gowin and Greg Johnson and wife, Dr. Julie of Campbellsville; five grandchildren: Cody Gowin, Ciera Brooke Mattingly and husband, Corey, Amanda Gribbins, Patrick Michael and Matthew Michael; five great-grandchildren: Haley Gribbins, Makenzie Gribbins, Taylor Mattingly, Tate Mattingly and Beau Michael; one brother and one sister: James Cox and Ann Gaddis of Campbellsville; special friends and caregivers, Marbelis Erhardt and Gina Meeks; several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.

She was also preceded in death by one sister, Jewell F. Milby February 16, 2017, one sister-in-law, Geraldine Cox May 13, 2022, and two brothers-in-law: Bruce Milby April 17, 2021 and Herald Gaddis, May 26, 2021.

VISITATION:  5:00-8:00 P.M., Wednesday, June 29, 2022 at Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home

FUNERAL SERVICE:  1:00 P.M., Thursday, June 30, 2022 at Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home in Campbellsville by Rev. John Butler and Rev. Don Gowin

Gilbert “Judge” Burton, 77

Gilbert “Judge” Burton, of Campbellsville, the son of Coliver Ray Burton and Lucille (Turpin) Dishon, was born April 19, 1945 in Hamilton, OH and departed this life on Monday, June 27, 2022 in Greensburg at the Green Hill Manor Nursing Home. He was 77 years of age.

He had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Spurlington United Methodist Church and was a former salesman at Alex Montgomery Chevrolet in Campbellsville.

He was a Veteran, having served in the United States Air force.

He played basketball for University of Tennessee and was an avid golfer.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters: Martina Jenkins and Joy Davidson and two great-grandchildren: Isaiah Glover and Evie Glover.

Survivors include his wife Ruth Ann (Harrison) Burton of Campbellsville; his children: Kelly Kathlina and husband Tim of Indiana, Kevin Burton of Barbourville, Angie Mills and husband Tim, Stephanie Thomas and Wesley Thomas all of Campbellsville; three sisters: Sheila Young and husband Ronnie of Corbin, Kathy Dickey and husband James of Nicholasville and Lynne Carter and husband Curtis of Lexington; a brother: Charles “Jeep” Burton of Somerset.

Also surviving are his grandchildren: Austin and Chase Kathlina; Grayson Burton, Alex Thomas and Raychel, Whitney Pyles and Wes, Timmy Mills and Abby Thomas; his great-grandchildren: Piper and Norah Glover, Landen, Zeke and Eli Thomas and a host of other relatives and friends.

The funeral service for Gilbert “Judge” Burton will be Friday, July 1, 2022 at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of the L.R. Petty Funeral Home (Campbellsville Chapel) with cremation to follow.

Bro. Robert Morris will be officiating.

Visitation after 10:00 A.M. on Friday until time for the service

George Wilson, 86

George Robert Wilson of Campbellsville, the son of the late Fleece and Catherine (Shipp) Wilson was born October 29, 1936 in Indianapolis, Indiana and departed this life on Wednesday, June 22, 2022 in Lebanon at the Springview Hospital. He was 85 years of age.

He was a former employee of Fruit of the Loom in Campbellsville, having retired after 46 years and was of the Baptist Faith.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and UK Basketball.

George joined the Taylor County Fire Department in 1967, and in 1970 he became Chief of the department. He held that office until retiring in 2021 and held the office of DES/EM Director also for over fifty years.

In 2017 a new facility was built on Greensburg Road and was dedicated in the honor of Mr. Wilson.

George helped build the old firehouse downtown; he solicited money from businesses and the general public and organized volunteers to erect the structure.

George was instrumental with many other parts with the fire department, including starting the membership dues fund which help offset operating expenses, securing funding for PPE, fire trucks, equipment, and the new fire house, and worked tirelessly during each Crusade for Children and the annual pancake breakfasts.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter: Sondra Harris; two brothers: David Wilson and Charles Lester Wilson; and a great-grandchild.

Survivors include his wife: Linda (Cravens) Wilson; his children: Dewayne (Terry Lile) Wilson, Brent (Bobbie) Irwin, Cathy Wilson all of Campbellsville, Velisa King of Alabama, Georgeanna Grant of Harrodsburg, Bridget (Nate Johnson) York of Bowling Green and

Robin (Brandon) Lewis of Columbia; a sister: Lillie Ann Whitaker of Campbellsville.

Also surviving are his grandchildren: Jessica Loveland, Malissa (Justin Graves) Clemons, Lane Irwin, Ethan Irwin, Ethan Irwin, Autumn Key, Curtis Wade Key, Channing (Josh) Wall, Shelby Grant, Landon Irwin, Melody Irwin, Madilynn Grant, Tabitha Grant, Logan Cook, Sarah Cook, Kelsay Cook, Roslin (Josh) Smith, Morgan Spoon, Bodie Lewis, Dustin Ivie, Jake Grider and Ashley Smith and thirteen great-grandchildren.

The funeral service for George Robert Wilson will be Sunday, June 26, 2022 at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of the L.R. Petty Funeral Home with entombment in the Campbellsville Memorial Gardens with fireman honors at the conclusion.

Bro. Ronnie Dooley, Bro. Dan Durham and Bro. Sheldon Stephens will be officiating.

Family requests visitation from 5-8 PM on Saturday and after 7:00 A.M. Sunday at the funeral home.
