Brigadier General Noah Edward Loy, USAF Ret.

At approximately 9:00 a.m. on the morning of December 29, 2020, Noah Edward Loy past away, at the age of 82, just one day after his 64th wedding anniversary.

Noah Edward Loy was born in Fordsville, Ky, to Kavanaugh A. and Susan M. Loy on December 23, 1938. He graduated from Campbellsville High School, Ky, in 1956, where he would also meet his life long partner, Joan Sharon Caulk. “Edward” graduated from the University of Kentucky on May 30, 1960 and entered pilot training in the United States Air Force as a Second Lieutenant on June 24, 1960.

General Loy’s career included serving two tours in Vietnam (1967 and 1973). As a combat pilot, he amassed 239 missions, with more than 500 combat hours over Laos, Cambodia, North and South Vietnam. He spent much of his career overseas in England and Germany as part of the NATO command, serving most notably as a Squadron Operations Officer, Squadron Commander, Base Commander, Vice Wing and eventually Wing Commander. General Loy would finish his career serving essential roles at the Pentagon (Washington D.C.). After completing 30 years of distinguished service he retired as a Brigadier General on September 1, 1990.

General Loy was a command pilot with over 4800 flying hours in fighter and training aircraft with military decorations that would include: the Distinguish Service Medal, Legion of Merit with Oak Leaf Cluster, Distinguished Flying Cross with two Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Medal with fifteen Oak Leaf Clusters, and the Republic of Viet Nam Gallantry Cross with Silver Star. He also received the Exceptional Civilian Service Medal for service with the Air Force Scientific Advisory Board.

General Loy and his wife Joan retired to Campbellsville, Ky in 1990. He would spend another 18 years consulting for various aerospace companies and associations. He also donated time serving the local community and his church.

Edward is survived by his wife, Joan, and two sons, Michael and David, and their families which includes, three grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Two sisters Susan Loy Freudenthal of West Palm Beach and Linda Loy Aaron of St. Petersburg, Florida.

Uncle Ed loved and admired his many nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, too many to name. Ed Loy was called by many names and titles through his distinguished career and life, but his favorite title was “Poppie”

CSM (ret) Gerald Lee Derr (Jerry)

CSM (ret) Gerald Lee Derr (Jerry) passed away in Campbellsville, Kentucky on Dec. 19, 2020 after a long illness at his home.

Jerry was born August 29, 1934 in Fort Sheridan, Illinois, and was the oldest son of SM SGT (ret) Gerald Dawson (USAF) and Bonnie Lee (Greer) Derr.

Jerry served in the Army for 23 years, serving tours in Vietnam, Indochina, Europe and the both coast of the United States. After his active duty service, he moved to Southport, North Carolina where he was one of the first JROTC instructors in Brunswick County serving in the beginning all three high schools and eventually settling at South Brunswick High school for the remainder of his teaching career. SGM Derr as known to his students was a much loved and admired teacher who left a lasting impression on not only his JROTC students but all students who passed through the halls of South Brunswick High School.

Jerry is preceded in death by his wife Gayla Dean Mayes Derr, stepfather Alexander Goulet, brother Ronald D Derr, sister in law Kay Derr and his eldest son Gerald L Derr Jr (Butch).

Jerry is survived by sons David J Derr Sr and wife Sally of Sanford, Florida, Marc A Derr Sr and wife Dawn of Rice Lake, Wisconsin, daughters Teresa G Warren and husband Scott of Jonestown, Pennsylvania, Denita D Creech and husband Cleveland of Campbellsville, Kentucky and Denise Derr of Athens, Alabama. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren.

CSM (ret) Derr will be interred in the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West in Hopkinsville, Kentucky. A memorial service is being planned by family and former students and will be announced at a later date.

Brandi Nicole Marcum

Brandi Nicole Marcum of Campbellsville, daughter of Larry Marcum and Darlene Wilson Marcum, was born September 26, 1980 in Taylor County, Kentucky. She died at 8:18 P.M., Monday, December 28, 2020 in Elizabethtown. Age: 40
She professed faith in Christ and was a member of Saloma Baptist Church. Brandi loved Jesus and her church.
She was a fun-loving person and a die-hard Kentucky Wildcats fan. Brandi had never met a stranger and hugged everybody and told them she loved them.
She is survived by her parents, Larry and Darlene Marcum of Campbellsville; one brother and sister-in-law, John and Laura Lee Marcum of Campbellsville; two nephews: Luke Marcum and Landon Marcum of Campbellsville; one step-nephew, Weston Mitchell and wife, Autumn, of Greensburg; one step-great-nephew, Elijah Cole Mitchell; one step-great-niece, Khloe Lea Mitchell; several aunts, uncles and cousins and many other relatives and friends.
