Kenneth “Popaw” Dotson

Kenneth “Popaw” Dotson, 76, son of Charlie and Ruby Dotson, was born October 1, 1948 in Mahan, West Virginia and died May 1, 2025.

He had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of Bible Baptist Tabernacle in Campbellsville for over fifty years, where he served in multiple capacities.

In 1966, he united in marriage to Ruth Powell and moved to Campbellsville shortly after.

Ken coached girl’s softball at Trace Creek for many years and was known as “Popaw” to everyone.

He was employed at Wholesale Hardwood Interiors for thirty-eight years as a cabinet maker, along with other jobs working with wood.  He retired in 2024.

Ken was preceded in death by two sons: Ken Dotson, Jr. in 2011 and Michael Dotson in infancy;  his parents Charlie and Ruby Dotson; one brother and one sister.  He is survived by his wife of fifty-eight years, Ruth Dotson; two sons, Steven Dotson and Tracy and John Dotson and Deny; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; one sister and many other relatives and friends, along with his Bible Baptist Church family.

Bernice Rainwater

Bernice Rainwater of Campbellsville, daughter of Charles Thomas “Charlie” Ratcliff and Jewell Mae Skaggs Ratcliff, was born August 2, 1939 in Taylor County, Kentucky.  She died at 10:40 A.M., Wednesday, April 30, 2025 in Campbellsville.   Age: 85

Bernice professed faith in Christ and was a member of Robinson Creek Baptist Church.

She was employed at Taylor County Middle School cafeteria for over twenty years.

She united in marriage to William “Billy” Ras Rainwater July 2, 1960.

Bernice enjoyed being outdoors, mowing, working in h er flowers and going to yard sales.  Bernice loved spending time with her family, cooking for them (especially her “famous” fried apple pies) and decorating for the holidays.  She also enjoyed boating and traveling in the family motor home as she and Billy had traveled to thirty-eight states and Canada several times.  They enjoyed 15 years “snowbirding” to Florida each winter making lifelong friends.

Besides her husband, Billy Rainwater of Campbellsville, Bernice is survived by one son and one daughter: William Dennis Rainwater and Karen Renee Reynolds (Tim) of Campbellsville; four grandchildren:  William Joshua Rainwater (Janine) and Jordan Allen Rainwater (Jessica Hodges Jones) of Louisville, Devin Renee Cowherd (Christian) and William Reginald Reynolds (Sydney) of Campbellsville; three great-grandchildren: Addie Reyn Cowherd, Terron Robert Cowherd and Karolyn Raz Reynolds; one brother, Roger Dale Ratcliff and wife, Wanda of Georgetown; two sisters-in-law:  Vicki Ratcliff of Tompkinsville and Marie Ratcliff of Campbellsville; several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.

Bernice was also preceded in death by two brothers:  Earl Ratcliff and David Ratcliff.

Mary Kathryn Lawson, 100

Mary Kathryn Lawson, the daughter of the late William Blane “Little Bill” and Mary Liza (Johnson) Barnett, was born August 6, 1924, in Campbellsville and departed this life on Sunday, April 27, 2025, at the Campbellsville Nursing and Rehab. She was 100 years of age.

She had made a profession of faith in Christ and attended the Faith Alive Church, and a former employee of Fruit of the Loom.

Her greatest loves was for the Lord, singing southern gospel songs, cooking, quilting, and spending time with her children.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ira Lawson, in 2010, a daughter, Geraldine Brewer, in 2015, and a son, Ira Kenneth Lawson, as an infant.

Also preceding her in death was six brothers: Leonard, Huley, James, Owen Thomas, Richard, and Everett “Dude” Barnett; four sisters: Velma Christerson, Clara Brown, Mattie Lou Price, and Ester Roberts.

Survivors include two daughters and two sons: Dorothy Little and husband Earl of Campbellsville, Betty Nations and husband Buster of Milsap, TX, Jerry Lawson and Terry Lawson and wife Kathy all of Campbellsville; a brother: Ralph Barnett and wife Dorothy of Mt. Washington; a special nephew: Ray Barnett and wife Charlene of Mt. Washington; four grandchildren and a host of great- grandchildren and great-great- grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

The funeral service for Mary Kathryn Lawson will be Thursday, May 1, 2025, at 1:00 P.M. in the chapel of the L.R. Petty Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Campbellsville Memorial Gardens.

Bro. David Boils will be officiating.

Family requests visitation on Thursday after 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home.
