Ira Powers

Ira Powers, age 62, of Eastview Lane, Campbellsville, died Monday at his residence  after an illness.

He is survived by his wife, Alice M. Powers, two sons and daughters and their spouses, Michael James and Terry
Powers of Florida, Matthew and Jessica Powers of Indiana, Melissa and Michael Kinslow and Marla and Bryan Smith of,  Indiana. Two step-sons and their spouses, James and Dana Hoosier of Lexington Scott and Stacy Hoosier of Campbellsville and one step-daughter and her spouse Tammy and Leo Thompson of Campbellsville. Seventeen grandchildren and  several great-grandchildren also survive along with three brothers and two sisters, Hershel and Estill Powers of Tennessee, Lloyd Powers of Michigan, Geneva  Hunley of Tennessee and Alene Leach of Indiana.

Funeral services for Mr. Ira Powers will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday at the Lyon-DeWitt Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Campbellsville Memorial Gardens.

The family request visitation from 5 to 8 PM Tuesday at Lyon-DeWitt Funeral Home.

Two Vehicle Accident on Hwy 289 Traps Arm of One Driver

(07-10-2011 – 08:07 pm) Justin Hayes, age 21 from Campbellsville, Ky., operating a 2003 Chevy Tahoe was attempting to turn left from Highway 289 onto Fern Drive.  Hayes stated he did not notice a 2003 Kia Optima operated by Kathy McElroy, age 50 also from Campbellsville, Ky. approaching and he turned into the path of her vehicle. Hayes was trapped when his vehicle overturned and his arm was pinned beneath it.  Hayes was freed by Taylor Co. Rescue and transported to Taylor Regional Hospital. Two passengers in the Hayes vehicle, Adam Rhodes and Ben Callahan  were not injured.  McElroy was also treated at the scene and transported by Taylor Co. Rescue to Taylor Regional Hospital. The condition of both is not available.

Richard Lee Russell

Richard Lee Russell of Campbellsville, son of the late Claud Russell and Annie Sanders Russell was born March 5, 1935 in Taylor County, Kentucky. He died at 4:15 A.M., Saturday, July 9, 2011 in Campbellsville.  Age: 76

He professed faith in Christ and was a member ofGreen RiverMemorialBaptistChurchwhere he was a former deacon and choir member.

He was a retired heavy equipment operator.

He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Jackie Faye and Dwight Alan Bailey and one son and daughter-in-law, Richard Lee II and Marie Russell; eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; two sisters and one brother: Velma McVay and Grace Wilson of Campbellsville and Leslie Russell ofLiberty; several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.

He was also preceded in death by four brothers: Fred Lewis Russell, Wallace C. Russell, C.T. “Tom” Russell and Bob Russell.
