Iva Richerson Hardesty

Iva Richerson Hardesty of Louisville, formerly of Campbellsville, daughter of the late Truman Richerson and Laura Malone Richerson, was born March 18, 1927 in Taylor County, Kentucky. She died at 1:50 P.M., Sunday, November 19, 2017 in Louisville. Age: 90
She professed faith in Christ and was a member of Muldraugh Hill Baptist Church.
Iva was not only an excellent seamstress and very creative at floral arranging, but she was also great with wood working. Above all else, she was always a loving and caring mother and grandmother.
She united in marriage to Maurice Hardesty on October 28, 1946 and he preceded her in death on June 25, 2011.
She is survived by one son and one daughter: Randall Hardesty and wife, Sandra of Bardstown and Diann Hardesty Johnson of Louisville; four grandchildren: Angela Benningfield Harrison and husband, Bo, Lisa Benningfield Skinner and husband, Jerry and David Hardesty of Louisville and Randall Gene Hardesty of Bardstown; two great-grandchildren: Austin Dale Harrison and Shelbie Diann Harrison; three step-great-grandchildren: Amber Harrison, Tammy Yaste and William Yaste; one great-great-grandson, Justin David Hardesty; one brother-in-law, R. C. Hardesty of Louisville; several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.
Iva was also preceded in death by one daughter, Donna Jean Hardesty; two brothers and two sisters: Preston “Pete” Richerson, Ralph “Boss” Richerson, Ruby Philpott and Alma Short.

Mary Frank Mayes

Mary Frank Mayes of Campbellsville, daughter of the late John Rice Wolford and Minnie Florence McKenty Wolford, was born March 29, 1923, in Taylor County, Kentucky. She died at 8:36 P.M., Saturday, November 18, 2017 in Louisville. Age: 94
She professed faith in Christ at an early age and was the oldest member of Campbellsville Christian Church. Mary Frank was actively involved in the Ladies Prayer Group and Harmony Missionary Society. She had also served as an assistant teacher in the Glow Worms Preschool Program.
She was a retired instructor at Fruit of the Loom having been employed there for thirty two years.
She was an active member of the Homemakers Club and previously volunteered with the Taylor Regional Hospital Auxiliary.
Mary Frank united in marriage to William Howard “Bill” Mayes September 6, 1941 and he preceded her in death on September 6, 1968.
She is survived by two daughters and one son: Marcia Shrum and husband, Earl of Paducah, Darlene Netherland, and Howard Mayes of Campbellsville; seven grandchildren: Ben Netherland and wife, Robyn, Keith Mayes and wife, Carol of Campbellsville, Shanae Thompson and husband, Bobby of Elizabethtown, Rayna McCarty and husband, Rick of Grand Praire, Texas, Tara Peffer of Benton, Billy Mayes of LaGrange, and Mandy Workman of Preston, Illinois; four step-grandchildren: Amanda Bishop and Dennis Davis of Campbellsville, Cheryl Davis of Elizabethtown, and Stephanie Davis of Bowling Green; several great and great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Carlotta Mayes and a granddaughter, Deanna Ramsey and two sisters: Susan Dicken and Olive Crabtree.

Ellen Faye Cowherd, age 89

Ellen Faye Cowherd, 89 years, one month and two days of age, of the Bengal community died Saturday, November 18, 2017 at T. J. Health Columbia.

She was born on October 16, 1928 in the Equality community of Ohio County, Kentucky to the late Strather E. and Virgie Bennett Hunter.  She was the widow of Theodore Cowherd who died on August 24, 1996.  A brother Austin Hunter and sister, Ethel Hunter, also preceded her in death.

Ellen attended Russell Creek Academy (Campbellsville College) and Georgetown College before receiving her Bachelor’s degree from Western Kentucky State Teacher’s College (Western Kentucky University).  She went on to teach and retired from the Taylor County School System with over twenty-five years in elementary education.  A member of Early Chapel United Methodist Church, she was active in United Methodist Women, the Order of the Eastern Star, Homemakers and had served on the Soil Conservation Board.  She was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling on bus tours and going to Kroger.

She is survived by two sons, David Cowherd and his wife, Sherry of Campbellsville and Tommy Cowherd and his wife, Betsy of Illinois, five grandchildren, Carrie Gupton and her husband, Joe, Jessie Brockman and her husband, Steven, Kyle Cowherd, Lane Cowherd and Rebekah Cowherd and three great-grandchildren, Ella and Maggie Gupton and Theo Brockman.

Funeral services for Ellen Cowherd will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 22nd at Lyon-DeWitt-Berry Funeral home with Bro. Paul Dicken officiating. Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery.

Serving as pall bearers will be Lane Cowherd, Kyle Cowherd, Steven Brockman, Jason Jones, Rebekah Cowherd, Robert Louie Cowherd, Joe Gupton and Eric Phillips.  Honorary pallbearers will be, Jerry Arnett, Mike Matney, Mike Elmore, Billy Willis, Barry Blevins, Joe Ward and Ernie Blough.

The family request visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday November 21st at the Lyon-DeWitt-Berry Funeral Home.

Expressions of sympathy are suggested to the Kentucky United Methodist Church Home for Children and Youth or Gideon Bibles which can be made at the Lyon-DeWitt-Berry Funeral Home.
